So glad Ubisoft is going down the shitter. Wish it happened 5 years sooner.

So pirating Ubisoft games is actually a good thing.
Ok_Long_275
Not caught up on this, what are their reasons for this? Coz they shouldn’t be that fcking dumb to play with negative PR when they’re already going down.
This is literally them saying feel free to pirate our games
AussieBirb
Insert sailing reference here at least if the games were worth the trouble.
Tritec_enjoyer96
I hope Ubisoft gets put out of business, then we will see who owns what.
RedditButAnonymous
Ive been avoiding Ubisoft games since like 2016. But I do think theyll win this lawsuit.
I think games being permanent is just a wish we all have but honestly, in the real world, it doesnt make sense. I cant buy a cinema ticket and then complain 2 hours after the showing that the cinema ticket is worthless now. I think a judge will see games the same way, even if I want the outcome to be different. The cinema ticket doesnt mean I own the movie, or the cinema.
The real solution is to just stop buying dogshit games from dogshit companies. Its really not that hard? I havent bought an Ubisoft or EA game for 10 years. Block the publishers on Steam and dont install their launcher, you never see the games at all.
hawkepostate
then ill gladly pirate their games, at least then ill own it
5wmotor
If you don’t own it while paying for it, it’s not stealing if you download it.
fly_over_32
Imagine them stealing and destroying every copy of reservoir dogs and pulp fiction because Tarantino is making a new movie.
(The first draft of this comment was made with George Lucas, the I remembered…)
easeypeaseyweasey
Should be a legal requirement for live service media to go open source upon being removed. Disney wants to remove a movie, in the public record, Ubisoft wants to remove a game, open source the code, it’s now able to function again through mods.
Make them think twice about the “tax write off”
Joltyboiyo
Then I’m not stealing when I pirate.
InsuranceKey8278
no one said they own the ip
they are saying people who brought the game should be able to modify and use it on a personal level (so their own computer and if they dont resell)
SirOakin
If you buy Ubisoft games you deserve it
MasterJeebus
Under the first agreement the game license for use was dated to expire in 2099 not 2024. When they started revoking licenses and removing game from user profiles was in 2024. I hope they loose this lawsuit.

Jesus. How many times will this get reposted on here and rest of reddit…
Void-kun
You know this is super common right?
Like none of us own any of our Steam games it’s in their disclaimer that we only own a limited license. That’s why you can’t transfer your steam game library on your death.
People are so outraged by this and don’t realise nearly every PC game (except DRM free from GOG) work this exact same way, even single player games rely on Steam DRM.
I’m amazed this is outrage on PCMasterRace because for gamers this is common knowledge and there have been many articles about it in the past.
zlydzik
Worst thing for me is that in The Crew 2 and in Motorfest then dumbed down on customization. I also wish they allow your own cars on playlists in Motorfest in 1st try. Hell, make me buy it, but let it be mine in game car.

Can’t wait till the company that makes my fridge releases a new model, and they come to my house and break my current one so I can’t use it

Seriously, why Ubisoft is so audacious? They don’t realize they’re sinking?
Aviletta
Just wait until Ubisoft won’t own their own company…
Oh wait, they had to take Tencent’s “investment” offer or they’d go under, who woulda thought? 😮
Ubislop should focus on making actual games, and not putting microtransactions in every game, especially single-player, like they did with AC: Shadows, *again*.
r4plez
Dont own “your” game. This sentence dont make sense
Trawzor
I havent paid for a Ubisoft game in 4 years.
mpt11
Are they wrong though? Morally yes but it came out in 2014 and was an online game.
Legally you own a license, unless you live in the EU.
You can blame steam for this, although you all love steam here
Bak-papier
Ubisoft should just replace the “Buy” or “Purchase” (idk i never use their shit launcher) buttons. And change them into “Rent” instead. Problem solved.
SonKun911
We are not pirating, we are borrowing.
Cheap-Comfortable-50
well you fellows at UBISOFT better get used to the idea of not having a job and not owning a company.
if you want to play their games then set sail to the seven seas of the internet.
neppo95
Interesting how every publisher has been doing this over the years and now we are finally seeing action against it. Nice to see Ubi one of the shittiest of them all, take the fall for it.
Might also be a good reminder for everyone there is a related petition going on that needs our votes.
If it passes, we’re one step closer to having videogames actually be yours and in a functional state.
FuckM0reFromR
Why change if people keep buying this slop? As shitty as it is, and as much as I hate it, the customers keep voting with their wallets.
Global-Pickle5818
from their stand point you only own a license and you agreed to their Tos … thing is a lot of games are made useing other software that they also license not to mechion assets like music and in this case car designs they couldn’t just let you have the source code … thing this was even a thing going back to Nes you tactically dont own those games …. but you can ask any game developer about this and they will tell you the same thing and they get hated for it but thats how the business works (assuming they dont make their own engine tools or license other assets ) there’s also the issue where the developers arnt the publisher so who would make this work for legacy games w/o just releasing the source code (anyone whos worked in game development knows once a game ships now days you will get laid off or have the whole studio shut down even if it makes a profit ) ….

well, i never bought the crew 2 but i bought the last three forza horizon games instead and they completely killed my fomo. get fucked ubisoft, those were still important memories that i’d have loved to relive one day (hopefully there’s a copy on the high seas? but i shouldn’t have to resort to that, _i bought the fucking game, twice even_) but also your games suck and you deserve to be curbstomped by your competitors
Nielips
Wouldn’t that mean that they don’t own anything produced using AI though?
John_Doe_MCMXC
Got it. Pirate all Ubisoft games… but only the good ones… so, none. I save my storage the embarrassment, and they don’t see a cent. That’s a flawless victory right there.
whats_you_doing
You used our money. As we can’t use the game, you can’t use that money. Give the money back. Touche?
PhonesAddict98
So, the nimrods at Ubisoft continue to insist? No wonder why gamers who at least have an ounce of reasoning hate them.
Sorry Ubi, but if buying your games doesn’t make my copy of the game, truly my own to with as I please and play it whenever I want, then pirating my copy and creating a modified web server to join worlds and play in them, isn’t stealing. Get with the program Ubi, but it’s too late for that in my opinion.
boersc
Well, did YOU pay full price for it? Are YOU one of the 10 people that were still playing it regularly? If not, why the outrage? I have NO problem with games having an end-of-life date, especially if that’s 10 years after release.
