Every tournament nowadays seems to have a disproportionate amount of Brazilian teams competing, just for LITERALLY all of them to be completely gone in the group stages. The worst part, is that they never even put on a good fight either. These teams are consistently finishing dead last.
It's inexplicable to me how Brazil can be so garbage at CS. Countries like the US or China, generally have a very low interest in the game compared to other Esposrts, and don't have many lower tier teams and leagues that could produce high tier players. Countries like Sweden are very small with an aging population, so it's understandable how pulling new talent could be difficult.
Brazil on the other hand has 210 million people, and counter strike there is incredibly popular, with some of their biggest streamers doing CS content exclusively. This is not to mention that they have tons of local leagues, tournaments and teams that can provide heathy tier 2-3 competition that is missing in places like the US.
To make matters worse, they have insane history in counter strike, meaning that they don't even need to build a team from the ground up with nobody in the scene to provide experience and knowledge on how to win. Brazil has a history of winning big events dating back to the early days of 1.6, with many of these legends still playing professionally.
I actually can't find a SINGLE reason why Brazil can't even have a decent CS team, much less why they are this consistently bad in tier 1 events. I guess being poor compared to a lot of European countries could somewhat explain it, but Brazil is a middle income country. They are poorer than a first world country, but this isn't Burundi we're talking about. I actually can't find an excuse for this region

Brazil is the worst offender for overinflated buyouts in CS, thats basically why building a properly competitive team is almost impossible. Among some other factors like barely anyone to help properly develop talent in the region.
paiN is the only one that has any top 10 potential.
Weird buyouts making a truly tier 1 roster impossible
paiN went in with an interim team and got stuck with a tough bracket, Legacy overperformed as soon as they made it in, Furia are dookie
You wouldn’t understand… /s
Like the CIS region, it has insane buyouts, but… UNLIKE the CIS region, it has NO ORG capable of paying insane buyouts like the betting orgs you see, for example, and VP, will quite often pay.
Also, the management for them generally relies on smaller teams for scouting, which means they will not be the ones pushing new players out, at all.
They could have a contender level team if they could consolidate talent. The other problem is lack of good awpers
Brazil teams in the 9-16 ranking consistently beat euro teams in the 17-24 ranking based on the last two majors. Europe is very top heavy and garbage outside the top 8 compared to SA.
Bronzil. A lot of Brazilian people have substance abuse issues
Hard to believe it was 10 years ago when a Brazilian team dominated the CS scene
The teams high up in the Americas rankings seem really difficult to catch up to with the new valve rankings. If a European team stagnates, another team has plenty of opportunity to overtake them and get the invite instead. For the Americas, Furia, pain, and even liquid can have a million mediocre performances but keep getting invited to tournaments because it’s so difficult for an M80 or Imperial to gain points.
Our biggest problem is lack of top tier AWPers and IGLs, awpers we only have a decline Fallen and a promissing Nqz, igls is only Fallen again and Biguzera
Another problem is the same we have in soccer, there is a lot of good players but they don’t have any tatical knowledge, it’s only skill
US has more than double the players in counter strike than brazil and cant make one good team, and you are curious about brazil? lol
Bc they dont understand others
Time for twist to go back to faze lol
“Never put up a fight” Legacy absolutely put up a fight. Pain usually does as well. I don’t see any issue with these teams being present at tournaments, sounds like you are just whining for no reason.
We will never understand sadly…
They all keep players hostage with long spanning contracts and hefty buyouts.
That leaves several mediocre teams and no great ones.
as a brazillian, i believe it is because of the amount of money they get, not only on CS, but in every type of sport or eSport… after getting enough money to leave poverty, they simply stop trying to win every single type of game or competition.. and after a lost game/match, they say “we’ll come back stronger” or “they were better, we did some mistakes” and all that yada…
the biggest example of this is Neymar.
it’s all about getting enough money to not have to put in the work
Really wonder if there’s money laundering involved because their buyout never make sense
a well-known phenomenon, which must be studied tho
Everybody in the pro scene knows that valve will shift the game a little bit back after the major so nobody cares now. Everyone is betting at tier 1 ,2 and 3. No one is actually competing besides players fighting for contract renewal. You’re all watching a show, just a tv show.
Brazilian orgs have absolutely no idea on how to make CS contracts and end up locking good players with subpar players, so its impossible to make a super star brazilian team, I dont know how br orgs manage to pay their players because brazilian players are absolutely not worth what they get paid and bought.
Feels like the BR scene is just a whole money laundering scheme, like Furia didnt win a single match against top 15 players for like 6 months already, how they get paid? merch? Any other team would have make changes, but here is Furia just betting in a dead roster, probably because they dont have the buyout money to get any good player.
And tactically the br scene is just not on pair with top 10 teams nowadays, its basically the same as football, the br scene by itself works 100% on players just brute forcing their way into a win, u hardly see a different strategy being used, thats why u see so many br football players being the best players on their european teams and just being useless on their national team, they lack leadership to be used accordingly, Fallen is just stuck in 2017, there is biguzera which managed to go really far recently with pain but right now they have a academy player and kinda lack fire power
We do have good players, thats why every tournament brazil is up there with the most amount of teams. Now why those teams fail to go deep idk, maybe is the lack of motivation since the players already making lots of money from the team regardless if they go deep or not, orgs also dont care since they making their own aswell.
Rn pain is the only team whos trying to change the lineup and use other sa players. I believe it is hard to compete with the world if you only look for talent in your own country.
We still producing new talent tho, unfortunated the academy teams do it more for the buyout profit than the development of the region but it is something regardless
Brazil has hyperinflated buyouts so the scene is playing musical chairs with on-form players and team comps.
you see it started when kng decided to randomly threaten fns’ life
As a brazilian who has followed the CS pro scene for more than a decade, I can give you many reasons, and they still won’t be all of them lmao.
1 – CS is very expensive: as you guys already know Brazil is not a rich country, and one of the reasons is because our currency is shit. CS as a business is not that profitable in Brazil as well, because the orgs rarely sell any player to other big orgs to return some of the investment, and merchandising doesn’t sell that well to cover all the team’s expenses. Also, brazilians don’t have easy access to good equipment to get better at the game, many promising talents are lost over the years because they give up on playing the game with bad performance from their cheap PC.
2 – Few player negotiations with foreign organizations: because the players are so lazy and self-entitled that they can’t even learn how to speak proper English, many orgs struggle to sell their house talents to international orgs, so, the only other options for players are to be bought by another (equally poor) Brazilian org or to get stuck in their current team. The consequence of that is that we don’t have the best players playing for the same org in Brazil, and the ones we have lack international experience. Basically, the Brazilian players don’t have a knowledge exchange with other nationalities.
For example, the current ideal full-Brazilian org would be: KSCERATO, the best rifler (now in decline), Biguzera, the best IGL, nqz, the best AWPer, insani, the best support, and skullz, a very promising rifler being held back by his shitty team. All of these players are stuck with shitty teammates like chelo, fallen, the whole MIBR squad, etc.
KSCERATO had many opportunities to play for other orgs like Team Liquid, but he chose the easy way of sitting on his big contract and staying in his comfort zone.
3 – Linguistic barrier: only 5% of brazilians have some knowledge in English, which is why it’s very hard to hire an english-speaking coach, staff, or teammate, so the scene gets really stagnated with the same players and staff circling between the teams, not renewing the strategies or game mindset.
4 – Players with giant egos: most of the brazilian players don’t care about winning titles, they only care about getting famous and signing a big contract with one of the big orgs to guarantee their retirement. For that reason, we still watch scenes like Furia players not caring about the game and laughing after chelo stopped defusing the bomb instead of being focused and mad about his lack of awareness. They also don’t show any sign of improvement, it actually seems like they’re not even trying to improve, they’re only waiting until the next tournament to commit the same mistakes.
The players lack motivation to learn new strategies and accept that we suck at the game now, and that we should learn something with the best players from the best orgs. They still believe that they can win games by just running around like idiots, as they do in pubs.
5 – Difficulty letting go of the past: FalleN was and still is very important to the Brazilian CS Pro scene, but he needs to have some kind of self-criticism and let it go. It’s time for him to retire as a player and either become a coach or a caster. The past is past, he won everything and was a brilliant player but now he’s a very dated AWPer and IGL, dropping very low stats in his latest series: 52.7 ADR against Mongolz; 63.2 ADR against VP, and 48.2 ADR against Complexity; Furia keeps committing the same mistakes because of his bad in-game calling as well as still losing easy rounds and throwing games when they have the upper hand.
Brazil really needs a breath of fresh air with coaches, staff, and IGLers. Ours are clearly dated.

These are some of the reasons that I can recall for the Brazilian scene to be so shit, but there are many others.
Poverty is a huge factor. Most people can’t afford to even buy a PC because of the countries insane tarrifs on electronics. A Playstation there costs like $1k plus.
Pain, it’s in the game
