I upgraded from 16 to 32GB and it was the bottom pic.
Reason was that its my new laptop (R5 7530U with RX Vega 7) got shipped with one out of two sticks of 16GB 3200Mhz memory, so the whole thing ran single channel and starved the iGPU. Now it runs at literally double the performance, leading me to believe it could STILL utilize more memory bandwidth.

It definitely couldn’t be any more true. I remember how my parents PC got upgraded with more RAM, from 4 to 8 and that was quite an upgrade. My own PC, it went from 16 to 32 to 64 and the upgrade to 64 is almost entirely unnoticeable.
I wonder how that would feel when I upgrade to 192GB (Maximum my motherboard handles).

Here I am considering upgrading from 96GB to 128GB on my 2023 Asus Scar 18 because I keep spilling to my 118GB dedicated Optane swap device.
Only a 33% increase in memory but when it’s the difference between swapping and not swapping it’s a huge difference.

Well, 2GB to 4GB felt just the same back around 2005 as 32GB to 64GB would today. RAM is the cheapest and easiest to upgrade, so other hardware will likely be your bottleneck. Except for specific workloads, you will rarely fill 32GB of RAM with current hardware, so doubling it will not change much. Give it a few years and 32GB will be the minimum while 64GB will be recommended (unless PC architecture changes drastically).
