Alot of the switch 2 is bogus (paid game upgrades, locking GC and paid tech demo come to mind)
But I’m not sure what else you want from them here – they’re going to continue supporting the older tech because they know the newer tech isn’t available for all, sounds like a good thing, albeit a bit tone deaf depending on how you say it.

Something can both be overpriced but afforded, if that makes sense. People with disposable income will just get the Switch 2 because they can. People are still going to scalp this thing because they can and someone will pay the price. It seems like they won’t be able to meet the demand anyway, so they don’t really care about how affordable it is to the average person. The biggest problem I have with his statement is that Nintendo’s prices never seem to drop. Even if you’re 3 years behind, there’s no break for you as a customer.

To be fair it seems like continuing to sell the Switch 1 was always their strategy. The same way they continued to sell DS’s after the 3DS launched etc. The real bullshit is that not every Switch 1 game will work on Switch 2 for some reason which muddies the whole pipeline up

I can afford it, I just won’t pay that. In my country, due to the value of our currency vs the USD the switch two will be more expensive then the ps5 god of war bundle I got when that game first came out. When I got my switch 1 in 2018 it was almost half that price.
Nintendo should use the Big Mac index or something instead of straight dollar conversion for other countries.
Certain car companies do this. Like for my car, in my country, is only about 15% more in my country and base currency than United States USD. Which is line with the Big Mac index (which I think is better than consumer price index, globally).

Their whole presentation—from the interactive tutorial you have to pay for to the inflated game prices to the “not really physical” physical games—convinced me I don’t need to get this system anywhere near launch. In fact, after feeling like I’ve neglected my Switch for a while, I’ve decided to trade it in for an OLED so I can play the games I haven’t gotten to yet with brighter visuals on handheld, and then maybe in 4-6 years I’ll get the Switch 2 Pro Plus, or whatever upgrade they release.

Microsoft tanked their Xbox One launch by saying this sort of thing. Nintendo fans won’t care and this console will still sell in massive numbers unless the economy becomes an absolute Depression where console sales are irrelevant as a metric.

I mean it’s a little tone deaf, but if you can’t afford to save up for it, you can’t afford to buy games for it either. Kinda not sure what the complaint really is. Luxury entertainment is exactly that, and they’ve never had a demand deficit to give them any incentive to drop prices.
Just get a steam deck or rog ally and emulate Nintendo games
Something to note here, but the Don Mattrick quote was in response to the very real issue of people not having consistent internet connections, at a time when the Xbox One was meant to launch with all the very anti consumer practices, like no used games and mandatory always online. Now look, I think the price going up on games is bull. But the 450 USD in the states? Is that an unreasonable price for what it’s offering? Didn’t we want a super strong Switch that won’t feel outdated in a few years?
Look I dislike Nintendo as much as anyone, and if the price goes up because of tariffs I’ll call it trash, but idk. It seems fair for what I hope to make my main console go the next decade or so. Now 80$ Mario Kart? 10$ for that glorified tech demo game? Absolutely ridiculous.

Seems like console industry leaders often stop thinking about the players after having huge success with their previous console. Happened to Microsoft when they released the Xbox One after have huge success with the Xbox 360, happened with Sony when releasing the super expensive PS3 after having huge success with the PS2.

I skipped out on Switch after I was unimpressed with wiiU. I was going to buy a Switch 2 when it came out. After 8 years of waiting, I am unimpressed with the Switch 2 for it’s price so I finally got a Switch 1 OLED while I’m currently in Tokyo. It was only $240 out the door and I got to fully customize it! Maybe I’ll get a Switch 2 when the Switch 3 comes out

Got downvoted in another thread for saying so, but this is approaching Xbox One / PS3 levels of bad. Just like those launch announcements, Nintendo is having to answer endless questions about pricing rather than people being excited for the system itself or its games. Bowser is just digging the hole deeper at this point.
Gamers made Xbox pay that generation and they haven’t recovered to this day. I doubt the same will happen to Nintendo.

Because historically telling your customers “if you can’t afford it” in any capacity has gone well. Especially given, y’know, the lack of price drops on the Switch 1 or its games.
