    no
you are asking too much, peasant /j

  2. Bielson1707

technically, “NO” is hidden deep in registry

I think the trick is to have a game running while you code. I never see update notifications lol.

  4. ProfTF2Player

You only see this when you’re “dangerously” behind in updates.

Microsoft slapping band-aids on their update problem as usual. Maybe if they made the whole process faster, users wouldn’t keep putting it off. It’s insane how long updates take in 2025 even with our crazy $500 dollar CPUs…

    Windows does not respect consent.

    No means next time.

SC delete wuauserv, though I’m not sure it’s either safe or reversible. The choice is yours!

  8. I shudder to think of the absolute state some systems would be in if updates weren’t aggressively pushed by Windows.

Most people don’t take care of their computer software properly, in fact they don’t even know how to, and yet their computer has their entire life on it.

So I’m sorry you got interrupted or whatever, but the Hoopleheads need to be saved from themselves. The updates must flow.

It could have been [OK] [YES, PLEASE] [YES, YES, YES!].
They are being gentle with your feelings.

It appears when you clean your monitor

Shut down the Windows Update service and set it to ‘disabled’. Of course that still doesn’t let you pick-and-choose what updates you get, you get all or nothing, but at least it’ll stop harassing you constantly.

If you want control of your computer you will need to switch to the penguin.

I recommend Linux Mint because it is so easy and made for beginners.

Windows update disabler 😘 thank me later

  15. UnicronJr

Just update dude. Schedule it for 0130 or something so it doesn’t affect you.

I remember when I put my work laptop to sleep with intentions to work later on a road trip.

My backpack was hot and I pulled the laptop out, it was updating. Battery depleted. I hate windows updates.

You hear about proof of concept RCEs being actively exploited nearly a year after disclosure and you expect its people running XP or old pirated copies but I’m reminded that people delay these for months at a time.

  18. christianlewds

I deferred updates twice now and last time (at 60 days mark with no reboot) I checked there were no updates to install. Is Windows finally doing the Linux update thing where it requires reboot only when necessary?

  19. ZestycloseClassroom3

Then stop using old version of windows if this picture is yours

  20. seniorfrito

If you’re going to hang out in PCMR, you’re going to have to know how to disable automatic updates. It’s quite easy. Then you can pick and choose what updates happen and when.

You say this until your bank account get compromised from the malware that was able to execute, or the bitcoin miner that’s crashing your performance in games that you can’t see.

Security updates are important, if you don’t like Windows you can use Mac OS or Linux, but it’s pretty ignorant to not install regular updates on whatever you’re daily driving.

r/pcmasterrace: Common sense is the best antivirus

Also r/pcmasterrace: I don’t want Windows auto updates

  23. Entire-Program822

Enjoy the viruses when they stop making security updates to windows 10

  24. Quakman1949

which is why i run windows 7, no more updates! getting the 3080 12gb to work with it was fairly easy.

  25. UnknownFlyingTurtle

about one and a half months ago windows said that it will update itself to 24H2 in a week… the update icon is now red

  26. ElysiumReal

You know that you can turn these notifications off right? In fact with the most recent windows 11 version. It’s off by default for fresh installs.
