This version of the game with exactly this level of censorship (including Ajay wearing a loincloth) was the Japanese CERO version from day one. This same build was also used for a few other Asian territories including MENA.

CERO is Japan’s media regulation agency (think PEGI, ESRB). Most publishers will create a Japan CERO version of their games in order to get their games rated and officially published in Japan, MENA and other markets.

I assume what OP is saying here is that they have now applied the CERO censorship to all versions of Far Cry 4. The most logical explanation to this is that Ubisoft are looking to re-release Far Cry 4 (maybe as part of a collection, or a remaster) and want to streamline their SKUs so they’ve sneakily updated all versions to have the CERO build or just patched in the CERO censorship. This is a fairly common practice for older releases that are being re-published, because it’s a nightmare having a bunch of different builds for the same game. I imagine localisation tracks will also be streamlined (VO and text).

Sidenote: I used to work in publishing for a large video game company for 14 years (not Ubisoft). One of my main responsibilities was dealing with media regulators like CERO, PEGI and more.

Did they do this to Far Cry 3 Citra too ? Or just FC4 ?

What did they censor? Did the npc have their tits out before or something?

You should’ve also put the uncensored photo for academic purposes

And what it’s worse is that this 10 years later update broke a lot of mods…

This is why I wish steam would allow us to download older versions of games.

What’s fucking irritating is that Ubisoft broke the music with a patch years ago and never fixed it. Used to love chilling in the mountains and just soaking it in**. Do they fix the thing they broke? Nope. But outta nowhere there’s a censorship patch. Great priorities Ubisoft.

** (before getting mauled by a honey badger and then a snow leopard and then a bear and then a honey badger again and then a patrol and then …)

Why not just make a nudity option that defaults to ‘No’ in the game options?

How come Ubisoft keeps shooting itself in the foot?

Maim and murder people? That’s actually ok. Nakedness? Straight to jail.

Censoring a bit of tit in a game where you can murder everyone. The world is going mad.

    Hey everyone (Community Developer here),

We wanted to give you a quick update regarding the recent changes some of you noticed in *Far Cry 4* and *Far Cry Blood Dragon* on PC.

After looking into it, we confirmed that there was a mistake during a recent update: content meant specifically for the Japanese version of the game was mistakenly uploaded to the worldwide (WW) version on Steam. This resulted in unintended changes, including censored models and assets.

The team has already resolved the issue by re-uploading the correct data to the WW depot on Steam. If you’re still seeing anything off, we recommend restarting Steam and checking for updates.

No worries, there are no plans to censor *Far Cry* at any time. This was simply an error tied to a specific regional build, and it’s now been corrected.

Thanks to everyone who flagged this and helped us investigate. We appreciate your patience and understanding!<3

To anyone who cares. A community member from Ubisoft on the far cry subreddit confirmed it to be a mistaken rollout of the Japanese version to the world wide steam version. They noticed the mistake and reverted it back to normal. No need to go scorched earth.

Also the Japanese version has been like that since day one. It’s not a new thing they did to that region suddenly.

    Hope this helps
