My SSD stopped working, when replacing I noticed this liquid on it. What the heck is it?

Licking it is the only trusty way to find out what it is

is it oily in touch and impossible to clean? then its probably oil from thermal pad (nasty, but harmless for electronics)

Might be thermal pad grease or oil bearing liquid.

Was it under a thermal pad?
Those tend to leave greasy residue – it’s non conductive so not generally concerning.

Thermal pad, don’t fuss about it. Wipe it.

most likely sweating from the thermal pad that was on it if there was one, totally harmless to the drive

That’s some rarely seen PURE DATA. If you’re feeling spicy, you should shoot it up and become one with the internet

Just oil from the thermal pad.

Your SSD looks like a 980 Pro or something.

I bet you didn’t update your firmware and it’s now locked into read only mode.

  10. Oh no, the memory fluid leaked. You better to that up asap

If oily then it is from a thermal pad it could also be the glue from the sticker.

  13. Did you misfire without the sidepanel on? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Premature data evacuation; happens to the best of us.

your motherboard must have leaked the tears of the children who assembled it.

Do you vape? Using a vape in the same room as your pc will cause this as well, we open up computers all the time that have this kind of liquid on all of the components

I’ve seen this on a desktop Dell workstation, but the thermal pad got so hot, turned oily and that oil seeped into the M.2 slot. The whole thing was dead and I figure that was probably what caused it
