This is a HP probook 450 g10. Battery life is awful, No wonder when looking at the physical size of the battery and wasted space inside the chassis.

They seem to be using the same battery unit for all screen sizes of the probook series, this might be acceptable in a budget laptop but this thing costs 1000€. come on HP you could have made this a much better laptop.

  1. There’s a cognitive bias that heavier things are of greater quality. In the time of plastics, a lot of things have weight added to make them appear better quality. Plus, using the same battery is cheaper for them.

Not a single HP thing will ever enter this house again.

  3. I had 2 HP probooks die a month outside of their warranty, one I owned and one that was granted to me by university. There’ll never be another HP product in my house.

Huh… I have NO idea why this plate would exist. For yuks sake, I found the service manual for this machine and this plate is not listed anywhere… My first guess would be this is where a potential smart card reader would go…but I found no evidence of that, nor a reason why a metal filler plate is needed there. WTH.

Putting extra weight in a laptop is like putting a space heater in a computer server room LOL

Is there a part number on the back of this thing?

HP are trash. I set up (and repair) 1,000’s of computers a year, mostly HP and Dell – and HP are absolute garbage. From their packaging, to their customer support, to the quality of the systems themselves…all junk.

Recently received a shipment of 40 HP all-in-ones: of those there were 16 DOAs. Same issue – dead row of pixels. HP not only refused to let us return (not exchange) them outright, but required a repair case be created for *each* system to avoid a **restocking fee**. Again, these were: open the box from the manufacturer and they were broken. Other manufacturers have no issues with returning DOA systems.

What the fuck? Never buying one of their products again.

This is the kinda shit you used to see with cheap Chinese knockoffs of media players and other things like that. They would put metal plates in their electronics to make it seem like it was more substantial than it really was.

I didn’t think I’d see it coming from a company like HP, but here we are.

So, that’s what HP labels a probook nowadays.

Oh how far have they fallen since the Probook G1.

  9. SaveFileCorrupt

You’d think people would learn their lesson about HP after the printer ink debacle.

Yes they’re cheaping out, and there’s no excuse for that. But on the other side, maybe it works as a support for the chassis to avoid flexing.

  11. iamintrigued

The metal weights would be for weight distribution and/or anti flexing of the body

  12. It’s not wasted space. That is where the card reader goes if you have one.

HP has been trash for a couple decades now. If you didn’t know that then you haven’t been paying attention. I thought the key-logger scandal should’ve been more than enough to get people to stay away.

There are battery size limits for FAA. Likely it’s there for support than shorting you a battery.

  15. Farren246

This makes no sense, simply because less weight = more sales. People at stores but based on weight, knowing absolutely nothing about batteries.

  16. pythonic_dude

Military-grade solution tbh. (abrams with trophy aps has over a ton of literal ballast bolted onto the turret to warrant smooth and reliable rotation)

  17. DeTomato_

Funny how HP added weight for a laptop. People seem to prefer lighter laptops, every gram matters. I guess the weight is for counterbalance?

  18. Rainy_Wavey

HP might be the worst IT company i’ve ever seen in my life

i had an HP laptop as a kid and it was dogshit, glad to see they never improved

  19. ratonbox

Do they have multiple battery sizes in the configurator? That would make sense. Smaller one uses less space, but I would imagine they would just leave it empty. Still, HP is junk, don’t give them money again.

  20. abstractism

Seriously, that’s such bullshit. Fuck HP.

We only use HP for laptops and workstations where I work. We have a few Mac’s which are more of a pain than any of the HP’s. We supply all staff that request a laptop with a Probook 455 G10 or if they require it a zbook. The only major issues we have are with the newer zbooks with the intent core ultra CPU’s They do not like the version of Win 10 we run. They have to run the trash 11 OS.

We still have tons of Z420’s in service. Hell I just pulled the last 4600 from service just a few weeks ago.

Somebody still buys HP products after all the bs?

  23. Idkwhattoputitas98

Well come to hp it’s mass produced and out of all is just plain bad

  24. MHWGamer

it is so stupid that not every laptop above a certain size uses always the same standard 99 WH battery.
Obviously if the frame is too small, then it needs to be smaller but 99WH batteries are very small nowadays and it will be a better user experience and cheaper (because of mass production) than all these 72,76,83, etc. Wh versions
