Reason for the build:
Needed a spot to set up my sim racing that didn’t take up valuable real estate.
There are a lot of compromises to this build. I would’ve liked it to be wider, but considering the tightness of the walkway, I had to settle for what it is.
The height was also compromised. It’s about 6 inches shorter than I wanted it to be so that I could walk underneath it without hitting my head. I am 5 foot 6.
All and all was a fun project and if I ever tear it down, it will make a great storage space.
Rig: 3090/5800x
*PSU is going out so I need to supplement power
Displays
Top: LG C1
Bottom: MSI 27 OLED, 2k generic display
Structure is sound,
ledger against the wall sits on 5 studs
Ledger away from the wall is held up with 3 2×4 attached to a strong back spanning 6 joists
My only concern is the long term tensile strength of the vertical 2×4 that hold the joist away from the wall.
I’m planning to add some chains to help share the load for longevity or maybe swap them out with steel.
Sim racing up folds up and down when not in use
Access is through external ladder contemplating stairs or a permanent ladder because of my small child.
Potentially something that folds up if anything

All you had to do to make this infinitely more stable was make a normal bunk bed design instead of having it suspended from the ceiling. I admire your confidence but I fucking hate this

That’s a hard yikes from me. You’re relying on the sheer strength of the screws to support you and your equipment.
I don’t like it personally, how often are you actually going to use that?
Why the garage?
I’m not judging you though, it’s your house man.
You cannot do this with those screws safely. You need to use lag screws with washers for the ones that don’t protrude, and use lag bolts with washers and nuts for the pieces that do protrude through the rail.
Please do this. This is not safe as is.

I would say that’s absolutely horrific.
If you don’t have space for a racing sim and your gaming setup is in your garage along with lots of storage then you probably shouldn’t have a racing sim.
That money would be better spent investing or in savings for a bigger home to then house a racing sim when you have the space.
It’s like those people who have blow up hot tubs.
