I’m doing some analysis on reddit data and looked at the most recommended gaming headsets in the past year. Thought I’d share the results here since people often ask for gaming headset recs here.
Methodology: I searched reddit for discussions on gaming headsets in the past year. I found 197 relevant threads used Large Language Models to extract opinions on gaming headsets along with any details of the referenced headsets. I then used the extracted details to lookup the models on Amazon. Unfortunately for now it only shows models available on Amazon (for simplicity’s sake).
Caveat: handling and merging different descriptions, models, abbreviations etc is non trivial, so the its not 100% accurate. It seems to be mostly right though at least from eyeballing.
This list shows me consumers like cheap crap being marketed as either “gamer” or “high end” as well as brands that are skating by on their reputation from 20 years ago.
I’m not an audiophile but I definitely recognize the marketing patterns here.

Just finished some research the other day when buying myself a headset, surprised that Sennheiser Momentum 4 isn’t on there since that seemed to be the top one in their subreddit, with Sennheiser being one of the tops in audio subs.

Where is Hd650 and a mod mic?

There is a human element to liking a product that analytics can never truly capture. There’s not one product that is universally good especially when it comes to comfort or sound quality since that is a subjective judgment.

Ordered by like to dislike ratio would bve better.

How come no ATH-M50x’s on the list, aren’t those recommended a lot?

Hyper X about to be dropping down the list. Whatever company bought them out shafted the quality of their products.

The cloud 2 is legendary. I’m like 5-6 years into mine and they’re still going strong.
I’ve kinda been waiting for them to die so I have an excuse to try the pc37x/38x, but shit, they’ve lasted this long with no real signs of dying.
Adventurous-Truth629
I love my Audeze so much. I don’t have the gaming headset, but they’re seriously a quality brand.

Audeze Maxwell cost 299 dollars! yeesh!!!
EluXun
Cloud 2 is a hot piece of shit imo
MeatballsMadeOfPoo
You just can’t beat arctis wireless pro swappable battery
usernamesarehated
audeze doesn’t really make sense coz if you had that much money to spend on audio, you might as well just get a dedicated mic and regular headphones at that point.
Complete_Potato9941
Never liked any of the hyper x headsets. The quality of build and sound felt worse than steelseries. But I would say the 770 pro and the Logitech g pro (non wireless (had issues with the wireless ones that never occurred that being said there were some driver issues in the early days on windows 10 but since fixed))

Just get used dt770 pros, they’re cheap, last forever, have good passive noise cancelling, are very comfortable, have great directional audio and fit almost every use. If you don’t want passive noise cancelling or want better directional audio consider the DT990, they are open back though so you literally hear everything on your keyboard.

I’m kinda surprised I see DT770 and DT990 there but not the great DT880 which I personally love so much I have my second pair.
kake92
dt900 pro x running for over 2.5 years now.
NaughtyPwny
pricing would really add value to this, not really useful to me without it

Any ranking that surprises you?

I expected Hyperx or beyers to be the top ones.
