UFO 50 is probably gonna stomp best indie game – self published and FFVIIR will probably take best story, but cool to see Tactical Breach Wizards getting noms.

I just couldn’t get into Rebirth. Felt like a lot of the same while the only new stuff was an Ubisoft cluttered open world.

I’m actually surprised by all the award talk for Rebirth. I thought it was a bit of a let down compared to Remake and it kept me waiting to just play the original. I’m not sure if it’s that we waited for so long for Remake and a modern ff7 that made it better to me or if Rebirth was just, ok. I enjoyed it a lot but some of the changes bothered me (mainly the planets Weapons) but also it felt incomplete. There was no breeding choco’s, no snowboarding, no showing Aerith being put in water or Cloud being swept into life stream and the biggest to me is they got rid of Secret teammates (Yuffie and Vincent) and forced them on you. I really miss how much we had in games to do back in the day and hidden stuff like the characters, weapons and limit break all because it’s multiple games instead of one big game like before so you “start over” each game.
I think a lot for me could’ve been fixed by it being a save carry over from Remake and making it feel like the original disc swapping. I really want 8 remade but I want it to play exactly like 8 plays and also not do this “separate game” bs.
Rebirth was amazing and it deserves GOTY 🔒

Stellar Blade not being nominated for music is such a strange and questionable decision. I don’t think the game is perfect, but as far as the OST goes, it’s not even a competition.
No wukong, no stellar blade, no persona 3 reload and no relink. Don’t know how to feel about this. I voted first FF7 remake but I really wish I can vote on something with more stylish combat this year, since it seems they are coming back.
Balatro GOTY
FFVIIRe taking Best Storytelling nom is such a joke.
Unless it picks up extremely well in the later half (because I’ve only reached the Golden Saucer), I don’t see why this mediocre dialogue writing (the voice acting is okay) and such slow pacing of a story should take a spot on this list at all.
At the same time its OST (except for a few like Corel mountain hike) is also very lukewarm to me.
If your award show doesn’t have Wukong nominated, I don’t take it seriously.
It is insane to me how ff7 is nominated for so many things, I guess nostaliga is one hell of a boost.
I feel unworthy to vote in this because I haven’t played all these games and i’d say 99% haven’t either. Which isn’t a fair vote. It just becomes a popularity contest.

Sure would be neat if any of these were available on Xbox. Such horseshit. Especially FF7R. All of the other FF games are on xbox except the one everyone wants to play. Fuck Sony and Fuck exclusive deals.

I feel like the winners of these awards are the games that disrupt the industry the most, or the games that we continue playing long after they released. That’s why Elden Ring beat out Zelda. Its probably gonna be Astrobot or Balatro
Rebirth for Goty
I think nowadays with just how many games are out each year, and how diverse the gaming scene is, these awards are no longer a good indication of how good a game will feel to each person. It used to be that if the critics say the game is 9/10, probably 80% of the players will agree, since most games are of similar format and designs, and video game players are a much smaller demography of people where the taste of players are much more homogeneous. Nowadays the audience of video game players are much larger, with people wanting different things and every niche of games can have a large following. I think we need to start looking at game awards like Fashion Shows for clothing: it might be an artistic masterpiece with lots of innovations and new ideas, but you probably would rather wear your basic old white converse, blue jeans and white T-shirt when you go outside.
