Specs: FX-8150 16GB DDR-3 1333MHz (forgot to show the ram in the before pics) SLI GTX 670s, Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 motherboard, 1TB HDD and 1200 watt thermaltake PSU

The original PSU was a total wreck so I replaced it with a 550 watt cooler master unit I had. I also added a 256GB boot SSD. I replaced the SLI setup with a GTX 970 to get modern driver support and performance in newer games as SLI has not been viable for years now. The processor also has a slight overclock to 4.3GHz.

The upgrades actually make this machine decently capable for a lot of games especially when the final price ended up being like $40 usd or 60 cad.

Looks good and amazing job cleaning it/restoring it.

  2. I love taking on these. I mean, I do them in the shed, but they’re incredibly satisfying to restore.

My son’s Dell Precision T5600 (2x Xeon E5-2640, 32 GB, GTX 680) came to me as such a machine.

You did an excellent job anyone should be proud of.

Awesome job! this was insane. Did you have a hazmat suit on when you did the cleaning?

My worst experience was recovering a friends laptop who had dropped a milkshake on. He waited a few months before he sent me the machine, and by then there was a vibrant nest of roaches and other bugs inside it eating the dried milkshake and having babies.

You managed to get the smell out? How? Ugh I can smell those first few pics.

Seeing these always makes me super thankful I was able to quit smoking

    That’s amazing. It’s something I couldn’t handle it.

    “seized by the gov”

    I wouldn’t touch that with a 10 foot pole

    I still use the same motherboard, an FX6350, 32GB (8GBx4) @1600MHz and an RX580 4GB.

It’s shit, but it’s mine, lol

    I use Arch, btw

Everything works perfectly. Has been working for the last 12 years or so (except the video card; only 4 years and had to fix a VRM mosfet myself as I bought it as scrap, lol)

All that and the last pic isn’t a POST?! 🙁

$15 and the time? Not even worth bothering

I’m just personally not ever going to mess with computers or anything else that people have smoked around… The whole seized by gov part also sketches me out… If anyone ever does end up with one of these filthy (unknown equipment in general..)

DO NOT BRING IT INTO YOUR HOUSE UNTIL YOU CHECK IT OUT / CLEAN IT….

You really do not want to bring some “infestation” into your house with old filthy computer…etc.

I see the Gov apparently left the hard drive…. If I was you I would probably smash that thing into many pieces and get a different drive (especially since the drive seems to be a spinner).

I miss the blue Gigabyte boards. I loved my 790X-UD4P.

Why even bother? That’s like a $250 computer.

Any tips on getting rid of the cigarette smell? My buddy gave me his Valve Index and I thought I had cleaned it well, but the smell came back.
