AC Shadow – I like Japan, always wanted AC from Japan. But this really bothers me, katana on your back and they cant even do a proper sheating animation for a trailer. This aint no Witcher and the inaccuracy in this game is insane.

It’s a videogame, sir. It’s a ***historical fiction*** videogame.
It’s not intended to mirror real life in every single respect. Otherwise, you’d die immediately when trying to take on more than one or two opponents.
Spoiler:
Leonardo DaVinci didn’t secretly design weaponry for Assassins fighting the Illuminati, either.
Medusa and the Minotaur aren’t real.
George Washington wasn’t secretly a tyrant.
A lone Native American soldier didn’t single handedly repel a British Invasion.
Edit, for clarity:
>Ubisoft has addressed this controversy, stating that the company “*deeply respects*” the care Japan has for its rich heritage, but despite aiming to encourage players to learn more about the historical settings depicted in the game, the intention behind the *Assassin’s Creed* titles has been to tell a “*compelling, historical fiction*,” rather than factual representations of history.
Their games have **always** been historical fiction. I have no idea why this is suddenly an issue for people.
Eastern_Analysis_965
Do you guys still buy Ubisoft games? Are you alright? Should I call someone?
Unicorn_Thrasher
if it’s good Japanese-influenced historical fiction with believable animations you’re after, i can’t suggest Ghost of Tsushima highly enough. in my mind (highly subjective opinion inbound) it’s the best “Assassin’s Creed”-type game that’s been put out in the past decade.
CaptainPopsickle
whelp. to be honest – i have waited for an asia/japan ac since they teased it in AC: Embers.
BUT.. and no i dont wanna hate on the series and i know people seem to like Black Flag and stuff, buuuuuut… AC has been dead (to me) since AC3.
They ran out of ideas, modernday was never interesting again, more fantasy than history, combat got more limited and so on.. they changed stuff that was typical AC for the price of other stuff nobody wanted.. and more. I mean.. I get it. Games and mechanics evolve – but you dont evolve Tetris, by taking the blocks out of the game. You dont evolve games by taking the essential Flair out of it.
Again, not here to hate, but i always suspected they would try to save AC Japan/Asia/Samurai for the time where they need a saving. And they wont get far with their style now. Although i suspect enough people will still buy it so they can justify their.. “way of thinking”.
THE_HERO_777
Is it wrong that I like Ubisoft games? I know they’re not 10/10 masterpieces but they’re good enough.
Maybe I have shit taste in games but social media seems to really despise Ubi games. Are they really that bad or is the hate overblown here on Reddit?
Milyardo
I’m pretty sure what you’re highlighting in red the the grey cloth strap wrapped around the scabbard and not the wazakishi. Also as previously alluded it’s not a katana. So you’re wrong on multiple levels here.
gwtf1f
This has been a issue since Origins for me, not animation but setting but the way the characters talks, it wasnt period based but rather how people talked and acted in modern life.

Breaking News: Ubisoft sucks at making video games
Unlikely-Garage-8135
It’s ubislop why would you think it’d be good.
Tangent009
they didn’t even bother to fix the horse animation in the trailer that speaks volumes already on how this game will be in the future… not that I’m looking forward to since my last AC game is black flag…
Past_House_9958
Why are they stupid?
Deathtrooper50
I too am interested in Assassin’s Creed games for their realism and historical accuracy. That is, not at all.
elliotborst
Ghosts of Tsushima is the game you want
Flossthief
Didn’t Ubisoft say they weren’t doing a female assassin in that one game because it’s too hard to animate women?
Now we have a women and she’s holding her sword wrong. I do imagine parkour and crouching would look funny with a sword on the hip
Does she at least remove the scabbard and then draw or does her arm just stretch to accommodate the blade length
zexxx52
AssAss in’s Creed, they tried to warn us what this franchise will become at the very beginning
I would expect a tanto (a knife) usage from her but she should have also an assassin blade device on her hand.
On the other hand, i agree with you about animation quality.
Oskej
You wanted both japanese AC & realism. That is where it went wrong.
JustARandomDude1986

Ubisoft be like.
ch1nomachin3
when my friend told me about this i told him i already played AC Shadow, it’s about this guy Jin Sakai. His people was killed by the Templar Mongols so he became an assassin to seek justice.
Devedeu
just play ghost of tsushima, it’s AC in japan that’s actually good and faithful to japanese culture. It’s literally the same gameplay loop as in assassins creed
PixelPaint64
It’s Assassins Creed. I wouldn’t worry about it being 100% realistic.
Revo_Int92
The “rule of cool” mate, simple as it is
Deranged_Coconut808
you are playing a work of fiction and want accuracy?
bullet312
I think the katana on the back looks cool
Tabula_Rasa69
I’m still pissed their idea of Asian representation is the stereotypical mysterious sultry Asian female.
Soulcaller
That trailer is crazy, doors floating in the air, stairs lead to nothing, bullets in the the air just stuck, woman clips his whole body trough the npc mid assassination animation . Bruh this game is so scuffed and we didnt even talked about the historical bullshit…
Progenitor3
“Katana on the back and no proper sheathing animation”
AC set in historical Japan, but you play as an African migrant. Peak comedy…
Now I want an AC game set in Africa, where the protagonist is Asian, please!
Tvilantini
You really start to nitpick things
Breakingerr
It’s a Ubisoft game, so you shouldn’t expect anything but slop from them. I always wanted AC in Georgia because I’m Georgian, but I know they’ll just make it terrible, so I’m not expecting anything good here either.
It’s baffling what a terrible track record they have with game production.
VincentVanHades
AC always stated it’s inspired by history… not accurate
Fawzee_da_first
This gotta be the most insane nitpick i’ve ever seen since when did AC (or most AAA games with swords) have honest to god accurate sheathing animations? Most of the time its game dev trickery. This isn’t KC:D ffs.
Flexi_102
I bought every Assassin’s Creed games and I’m not ashamed of it because I really love Assassin’s Creed. But I’m not going to buy this one, we’ve been asking for Assassin’s Creed game for years and for them to fuck this up so royally is really piss me off.
Mickamehameha
I’ve seen some “gameplay” footage, seriously the animation is unbelivably stiff.
I can’t comprehend how AC 2 was miles ahead of this while being 15 years older.
Comprehensive-Bag244
You want a Japanese game like this that’s made with love and actual people of their culture? Try Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
least-weasel-420
Does it have morrowind style Witcher combat tho
FullMetalBiscuit
Just get Ghost of Tsushima, it’s quite literally just AC Japan if it was good. Might be a bit generic in its design and simple in writing, but it’s very very pretty and a lot of fun regardless.
areyouhungryforapple
It’s more a Chinese game than a Japanese game lmao. Which is incredibly insulting
Spoksparkare
If this is the incredibly small detail that bothers you, I think you might have a slight problem

Let ubisoft rot and don’t buy this shit , i am not japenese but i fell offended with the disrespect towards japenese culture

Imma still buy it 🤪

Classic Ubisoft.
KirillNek0
so…. Do bother you not that male character is a fiction, but it does when it comes to blade?
Priorities, priorities….
Sinfullhuman
If only that was the only inaccuracy.
VaultDweller6969
If you care about a game that honours, has respect for,
and loves Japanese culture… play Ghost of Tsushima.
This game is very clearly not that.
I haven’t had interest in AC since AC3
When a Japan set AC was leaked my interest was piqued. When I saw the game all interest was killed.

In the times of feudal Japan, some samurai on horseback or carrying other weapons would wear a (n)odachi (a type of large katana) on their backs, with the scabbard tied to their backs like this: [illustration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%8Cdachi#/media/File:Hiyoshimaru_meets_Koroku_on_Yahagibashi,_showing_nodachi_or_odachi.jpg), [illustration2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%8Cdachi#/media/File:Samurai_wearing_a_nodachi_(field_sword).png)
