Because for the most part, the zombies are contained, the same reason we do it in the Aether story

To be fair tho, terminus is a prison isn’t? And liberty falls is a town
Hopefully the DLC round based maps get more crazier and unquie as it goes on
MonsterHunter6353
Its a prison that does experiments on the prisoners. Was zetsabou, gorod krovi, and der eisendrache too much of facilities for you as well?
I’ll agree, it’s a lot more grounded than those other maps I listed but I don’t think that just because ~20% of the map features a lab means it’s impossible to be interesting.
Hopefully they’ll branch out more with later maps but I really don’t think the experiments lab takes away from this map based on all the other different areas we’ve seen

If you look at the history of zombies, it’s usually been good at avoiding this pitfall. When we did go from facilities oriented with group 935 or other such facilities, there was always something unique about them.
Verruckt, a map set in a psychiatric asylum, oozing creepiness and immersion.
Shi No Numa, a swampy facility location.
Der Riese, an industrial facility location.
Kino Der Toten, a run down theatre.
Five, it’s the Pentagon, summing itself up pretty well.
Ascension, a Soviet cosmodrome, as it is described.
Call of the Dead, in the Siberian outpost, being used as a filming set.
Shangri-La, an exotic jungle full of traps.
Moon, also sums itself up quite well, also another facility map.
TranZit, not well received, but unique, a glimpse into a town ravaged by the apocalypse.
NukeTown, a classic map repurposed in a fascinating way. Could fall under the category of “facility” or at least “military location”. Has us surviving in the aftermath of a nuclear test.
Die Rise, another poorly received map, a series of buildings in China, lots of verticality.
Mob of the Dead, a map that sees us escaping a zombie-infested Prison, playing as a group of Mobsters. Uses it’s location and themes very well.
Buried, an underground town with a sense of wonder, in my opinion, from it’s maze which seems to change each time you go through to the ability to re-visit the surface spawn area.
Origins, a series of 1918 war-torn trenches in France, the sky filled with overhead planes and even a zeppelin, this one did a really good job with it’s atmosphere and the story, characters and quest were perfectly selected.
It gets a little worse with Black Ops 3, with us getting a Der Riese remake.
Shadows of Evil, set in the 1940s, a very good looking map with a very strong visual identity.
Der Eisendrache, another facility map, but set in a castle, also with a very strong visual identity.
Zetsobou No Shima, another facility map, basically like Shi No Numa but bigger and with less personality, in my opinion. There are some set pieces that shine through, like the crashed plane or the one that flies through the sky, but it’s just Shi No Numa with an underground lab area, so it’s really the only bad facility map, in my opinion.
Gorod Krovi, war-torn Stalingrad, I believe this was also another facility map. Like many in zombies, it’s built on the bones of something else, layering on not just a facility but also what it was before and what it is now. Not as strong a visual identity as Der Eisendrache, but still enough to set it apart, still visually significant.
Revelations, this one is kind of cheating, since it’s just a mash-up of maps we’re already familiar with, shoved into a blender. Still unique though.
So clearly the story gravitates towards facility locations, which is hard to avoid I imagine, since most maps try to have some story justification. Many of these facility maps have their own personalities. I worry that current zombies maps will not have this. If we get many facility maps, you can bet they will all be the same.

Yeah I agree I want an Atlantis or something weird.

The problem isn’t facility maps like the youtubers are saying, I seen that video too😉
The problem is the ENTIRE game has lost its personality mostly because lack of difficulty, everyone can reach high scores so noone can reach high scores resulting in stalemates.
Every map is exactly the same to accommodate for the kill streaks and extraction, there are no unique perks or weapons on any maps.
If every one is equal the we are all equally miserable.
MrRedRice
the dlc maps have to better or bo6 gon fail
Late-Return-3114
half the maps since nacht have been facilities.

Idk if any of you guys were into WaW custom zombies but there was this one baseball stadium map that to this day I hope they adapt into an official game. Had amazing training spots on the field with a crazy fun camping spot up in the stands
