I am currently writing my Masters Thesis on the significance of trees in modern storytelling: Games.
I already wrote a paper on elden rings trees which also got presented during a lecture, which I am rather proud of 🙂

I appreciate every Suggestion, which games have some Kind of tree lore! Maybe I can incorporate them Into my Work.

Im making my own game, and guess what im gonna add next day.
Only bad part is, its level by level game, not an open world like these games. Sadge

Where’s my collectathon Prince of Persia 2008?
/s I actually like the game.

Was that tree in Palworld on launch? I played a lot and never saw it. I know a “DLC” came out but if that tree is from extra content added after the game was already popular it kinda defeats the point.

Gravity Rush has bigger trees than any of these games and it wasn’t that successful

In God of War Ragnarok, your home base is literally the multidimensional spanning World Tree.

Avatar the Last Airbender has one in show, too bad the game did not!

  13. There’s a giant tree in the final scene of A Plague Tale: Requiem.

Tree or other big object is just a good “im gonna go over there” feeling that works pretty well I assume

  15. final fantasy 9 has it too. release year 2000. no wonder tho, it comes from the nordic culture and that has inspired many many games

  16. ProfessorGiraporra

  17. BETOSCORPION92

    Subnautica have big “trees” too!

  18. Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 plant base

  19. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – Great Deku Tree

World of Warcraft – Teldrassil and Nordrassil

God of War (2018) – Yggdrasil

NieR: Automata – Forest Kingdom Tree

Ori and the Blind Forest – Spirit Tree

Final Fantasy IX – Iifa Tree

    Okami – Konohana

Secret of Mana – Mana Tree

Terraria – Tree of Life (in some versions/mods)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Whispering Hillock

    Dragon Quest XI – Yggdrasil

Tales of Symphonia – Great Kharlan Tree

It’s a common theme in both games and movies (Avatar for example). It’s a theme that runs through mythology and history. Symbols of being connected, the earth, community.

I know that some of these aren’t giant trees, but the symbolism of importance is achieved through size/lore.

    I mean… genshin has Irminsul… that’s technically a tree?

  22. Nyarlathotep13

It’s likely derived from the concept of axis mundi, a stem that connects the heaven and earth which is often depicted as a “world tree.” Yggdrasil from Norse Mythology is probably the most popular example of this concept.
