Is it that bad of a decision

IMHO, the entire generation blows. You can buy a 3080 TI for $400. By going with a 4080 you will end up paying 150% more for 33% more performance. Pretty shitty deal if you ask me. 3080 TI is the new 1080 TI.

4080 super is a good card but it is expensive. the value for money at the high end is bad even for amd. But if you want the performance, get it by all means. The 4080 super runs cool, is pretty efficient, and has great RT performance.

Despite what others are saying about price to performance, if you can afford it at this point in your life, do it.

I went from always being 2 generations behind in the mid tier range like a 2070 super to being able to endulge and buy a 4090 this year.

Was it insanely pricey? Absolutely. Do I smile ear to ear whenever I look at my PC I built, 1000%. It’s all about your own expectations when it comes to the higher end cards because they definitely will perform, but you will get everyone and their moms yelling at you about price to performance.

Nah, the 4080 and 4080S (there is like 2% difference in performance) are good GPUs if you want good RT performance and like to just go “ultra” in your games. Is in a weird spot where is not as powerful as the 4090 and not as price/performance like the 4070S but if you can afford it and you want the extra power then is a good choice.

I think I’m going to skip the 50s generation and wait for a big jump in performance

I enjoy my RTX 4080 Super and don’t regret getting it

Yes, it is bad. Get yourself 7900XTX, and you won’t regret it.
