DayZ – I can’t decide if I hate it or love it, but somehow I keep coming back

Oh my gosh I feel the same, also with State of Decay.

I remember trying to chop a deer with an axe and stopping like “wtf am I doing?”

Man the mod was so much better, the zombies are basically pointless in retail

Really good memories of the DayZ mod, not so much the standalone – it took them too long to make and the moment passed, PUBG and other shit like that took over.

I tried it once some years ago and hated it, all seems so buggy, is it still like that?

For me this is “survive by evading every living player the game”.

I don’t like engaging other players, I don’t attack first, even if I have a perfect shot lined up. My first reflex is to hide first, run away if feasible, and only attack if a confrontation is inevitable.

I remember couple of months ago I was looking for a house in rural area to park my character since it was roughly 2 minutes to server restart. I open the door and there is another player inside fiddling with their inventory. I turned around, opened the door, closed it behind me, then sprinted away to the forest. I did see them pull out a gun when I was leaving the house. Quite right, they didn’t know my intentions.

I had my gun drawn, I caught them with their pants down, I could have shot them before they could pull their weapon out. But that was not my philosophy.

In the end both of us survived, none of us fired a single shot. I shat a brick, I’m sure they did too.

That’s kind of fun I make for myself when playing dayz.
