It’s a cozy campy game for sure.
The audio production in particular is really good. If that is important to you in a game it’s well worth playing.
It’s an incredible game for a while. But then once you’ve unlocked most of the spells and skills, it quickly becomes a very repetitive collect-a-thon.
Still a good game, and a fantastic first project by the studio, but it loses its luster about halfway in.

The castle is fantastic. The town is enjoyable. The rest is boring as hell and repetitive. If the game was only the school and Hogsmeade with more class stuff and less repetitive “quests” it would be amazing. I enjoyed it for a while but never finished it.

Make sure you play the storyline with the Slytherin kid, it is by far the most interesting storyline in the game.
I agree that it is really good, but I also kind of agree with the comments here about it dying off after a while. They made the map too large. They could have cut a third of the map and spent that time on filling in some of the other areas more. I do think a decent amount of people wanted a Hogwarts student life sim, and are disappointed that it isn’t that, which leads to some undue criticism.
The combat is really fun though, which was the part that I was most apprehensive about.
I loved it. Sure it gets repetitive if you try to collect everything in the countryside, but the combat is always fun and the castle always has more secrets to explore. My favorite game from last year (did not play Baldurs Gate yet though.)
Game was ok but I think they played it to safe and made it to simple. Also the upgrade clothing system is almost worthless since you always find better gear and depending on how you play you get it way to late for it help.

If you are a Harry potter fan I would say it’s a must play. Anyone else 20 bucks seems reasonable. It kind of did everything very mediocre.
I wanted more of the games that you got to play in the castle yard lol.
Playing it with a controller really made it for me
It’s basically like an Ubisoft game: awe inspiring for the first 20 hours and then just kinda eh for the rest. It (like Ubi games) also has way way WAY too much unskippable cutscenes/dialog that drag the pacing to a crawl. You figure that after 30 years of video games, designers would know not to do this, but its probably to pad runtime.
And that’s how it shall be for all Games. Will try Baldurs gate in a year or so I imagine
Honestly, same! Not a Potter fan, but the world and detail in Hogwarts Legacy are incredible.

This was me when I picked up No Man’s Sky for 60% off the other day on switch. What a sleeper hit of a game, I’ve been having a blast.
I’m suspecting this to be a PS+ Essential/Extra frontliner by February of next year.
It’s a ton of fun at first but then you realize it’s not even about Hogwarts and the more time you spend outside the school the more boring it becomes. I just wanted to be a wizard and takes classes and live life at Hogwarts but that’s basically an afterthought in a game called Hogwarts Legacy.
Yep, just brought it too. I was excited about it last year but was still deep into P5R, so I held off and then heard about the lack of depth and repetitiveness. I can accept the flaws and enjoy it for what it is, plus there’s a couple of mods that seem to heighten the experience. Though the rumor that Rocksteady is working on a director’s cut sort of makes me feel like I should have waited.
I had a lot of fun with it, not all games need to be played for hundreds of hours and this was just about exactly what I wanted it to be
I really want them to nail the sequel, but I’m concerned they’ll approach it as a cash grab rather than thoroughly improve and update the base experience since they’ll instead bank on the face value charm of “Hogwarts” in a video game” that only works the first time around.
When you realize every quest takes you away from the Hogwarts castle to some random dungeon/cave it starts to lose its luster.
You hardly even go to class and class is super basic.
It’s a decent game for a little, and fun to explore the locations but you can tell the game was very under cooked after a while.

I bought the full deluxe edition or whatever for the same price on PS5 and have spent 46 minutes on it lol it is so god damn boring. I’ve been playing Cult of the Lamb and Unicorn Overlord. Way better

As a first major project by a mobile games studio, it’s fantastic. There’s a lot to like about it, but there’s also a lot of missed opportunities and areas where they missed the mark.
Some of the things that will stick with people are the combat, flying on your broom, the story line with your Slytherin friends, and how insanely awesome and interesting the castle itself is (you can and will spend hours just exploring Hogwarts itself).
I think if they had narrowed the scope of the open world and steered away from the generic collecting/fetch quests, then they could have focused more on giving each house their own distinct story (like the story with your Slytherin friends). It would have made the overall narrative a lot more interesting and would have made the game infinitely more replayable.

Mix this game with a dash of Bully and maybe a little Persona and you have the perfect Harry Potter game. They will never do it because we can’t have nice things.

A thing you need to remember about Hogwarts Legacy is that Professor Fig dies in every ending and also Rookwood was the one who cursed Anne.
if the whole world was as well crafted as hogwarts this game would actually be S tier imo, it’s still a great game either way tho, was surprised
I had a lot of fun with it but when you come to think of it, you okay a psycho lol.
My favorite part was when I utterly destroyed a goblin camp with dark magic and then my character says: I’ve got to tell Sebastian about this!
