$700 dollars? If this is a joke, it’s actually a hilarious one 😅

It’s bc they saw so many paying 700-800 from scalpers when the PS5 launched, gave them ideas hahaha

  2. eleanor61

And it doesn’t come with a Pro controller? If they included that, the price would “somewhat” make more sense…

  3. GreenApocalypse

I’m Scandinavian, and I don’t know a single person who buys discs anymore. Perhaps the European market is different to the American one.

  4. Bazookabrax

What’s next no controller included, I swear companies love money to much they hate it

  5. LaserGadgets

I saw another post with a meme about extra-vertical-stand-thingy, extra-disc-drive and was like “yeah ok I hope thats a joke”…..I guess its not. How can you be so damn greedy? xD

You pay for 60fps, 800 bucks, and they keep the dics drive. Makes sense for PC, but for console gamers….come on!

  6. I know some people think it’s not a big deal to not include a disk drive, but the pre-owned market is one of the perks to owning a console.

This thing is nearly $800 w/ tax and doesn’t include the option to play disk without paying another $80-90? That’s just absurd.

  7. playgamer94

I might have bought it if it came with a disk drive but nope not now. I doubt the specs have changed at all either.

  8. Beginningenz

    You know this wild thing?

you dont have to buy shit you cant afford or dont see value in!

  9. alecsnokia

Wasn’t this something expected? Why people are so confused? Is 2x more powerful than ps5… Be glad it is not 1000$

  10. I will keep the money for the rtx 5000 series..

  11. Chewbubbles

Forcing people between this or their own PC is a weird way to gain market share.

  12. ZooterTheWooter

$700 for no disc drive is honestly insane. I understand we’re trying to push towards a digital age but the fact that we’re trying to get rid of used media is bullshit. The only reason I even own a current gen console is because I wanna play certain titles that are dead on PC. Its just not worth getting a pro for that much. You’re just better off getting a decent gaming pc at that price.

  13. TheChiarra

I’m glad I got my ps5 a year or so ago for 500 some bucks at walmart with the god of war game, disc drive, and ps5 controller. Cause I would not buy a console that expensive, I’d just upgrade my pc for that price instead.

A: know your tech. It’s a Liquid Metal cooled CPU… don’t stand it vertically.

B: don’t care about a disc drive, It’s 2024. Just keep giving me the best exclusives ever and an enhanced console like you’re doing PS.

not like having a disk really matters too much when the full game aint even on it and you still need to “install” it to your console which then still requires the disk be inserted in order to play. in my book being able to simply pop in disk and play the game was one of the last things consoles had going for them, take that away and you just have essentially a worse pre-built pc.

but to their credit atleast the install process doesnt require registering your copy via connecting to a server that may not exist anymore or inputting a fucking code from the back of the case, or using a code wheel thing to find it hidden in the paper manual somewhere, those last two things being something often damaged or missing from pre-owned copies. these things were fairly common back in the era before steam popularized the idea of digital-only copies.

  16. What if… hear me out:

What if Sony made this announcement just to stir things up, let the prices stay like this for a while, and then drop a huge, decent discount for Christmas to make everyone happy again?

They did something similar with PS+, and now people are complaining about something else (service quality, games available, bad rewards program), but not the prices…

  17. Do people on here actually know other people in real life that care about a disc drive? Not defending them for removing it but I don’t know anyone that still buys physical copies of games personally.

Seems like something people only seem to care about online?

Is downvoting a question really necessary?

  18. Mesterjojo

Remember: op fears technology, or that Sony will wipe out it’s 8500+ game library.

  19. nihilishim

if consoles are all going to discless from now on, i refuse to pay over $50 to buy a game. If that means i play less, then so be it.

  20. inkseep1

The Atari 2600, adjusted for inflation, would be about $840 today. It didn’t have a disk drive either.

  21. s0meCubanGuy

Could build a PC for $700 that makes better fps. A computer is a lot more versatile. So dumb.

  22. BushMeat

This lines up with Sony’s plan as it has discontinued producing blu-ray everything

  23. Palsreal

What’s the point of a disc drive? The disc is just a license key for the downloadable content that is the whole game.

  24. Zero22xx

Remember when people thought that selling horse armour as DLC was a sham and going too far? Or when removing the headphone jack from smartphones was a source of jokes? Well look at us now.

Let’s not kid ourselves, these things are probably going to be a success for Sony, leading to all console manufacturers following in their footsteps. Having faith in the consumer is like having faith that politicians aren’t just in it for the perks and self enrichment. A year or two from now, every one will be acting like this is normal and that it’s always been this way.

Gamers: so you have chosen, death.

  26. Dangerous-Safety-223

The future is digital. Everything we watch and hear is digital. The new PS 6 will be digital only.

  27. Cornage626

People are consoles are too hung up on discs. If I had a disc for every game in my steam library that would be insane. Even if just looking at the games I’ve played on that list it would still be a bunch of wasted space.

Yeah it sucks you could lose access to your digital games, but you chose that platform. At least on PC we got GOG and good ol piracy to preserve media. Sony and M$ are eventually going to ditch discs entirely. I’m honestly surprised this current gen still has disc drives.

  28. xxzincxx

4,314 days ago, the Wii U was released at $299. You still pay over $200 for a new Wii U which is still crazier than this to me.

  29. FlyWithChrist

My last two PCs didn’t have a disc drive.

Disc drives are useless for consoles today because discs don’t have the updates. Even if you keep a disc, you’ll have to hack the console to pirate the updates once their servers go down. If you have to go through that hassle why not just have digital games to begin with? Having a disc drive doesn’t get you away from digital only data and mandatory piracy.

  30. AllHailSeizure

PS5 getting enough hate you’d think Sony gunned down an airport.

  31. Franonimusman

I’m a Playstation fan, but this just sucks honestly… Like, what’s the point in it? The base PS5 is already good, but this is just too little benefits for too much money. Why not focus on making the games more enjoyable, like how Xbox can enable 60fps on games that don’t usually have it. Or why not improve the ps+ subscriptions?

  32. 8-bit_Goat

I wasn’t going to buy a Pro in the first place, but I’m going to not buy it even harder now.

  33. SignalGladYoung

    It’s a meme until GTA6 comes out.

  34. hromanoj10

    Remember folks.

You’re pretty much in gaming pc territory and you can use whatever controls you want.
