Do you think Cyberpunk 2077 in a post-patched state deserved the GOTY?

    For 2023? Absolutely.

For 2020? Nah. I still love *The Last of Us, Part II* a little bit more.

Kinda, it is a great game, but story is a bit short and side quests are very repetitive

Dude it deserved it even in its 1.6.3 state, much less after Phantom liberty dropped

No. Game of the year is for new releases. They got their shit real together at this point but they shouldn’t win over devs who understood the assignment at launch.

  5. TheDapperMoore

Absolutely, even before you factor in Phantom Liberty.

Not really . Goty is for new games and cyberpunks chance passed by a long time ago

GOTY means nothing. Every year there are like 10. Who cares?

  8. Maneaterx

Yes, def game of the year for me. People whining about the state of the game on release are unbearable.

I don’t know about that. It’s a great game and a masterpiece, in my opinion. I liked it even before 2.0 got released. But it’s got a lot of jank to it, and not everything has been fixed post-patch. I believe if the game was released in a state it is now and then got fully fixed, it would have gotten GOTY and more.

Just think about it. There are a lot of new mechanics, like police chases and vehicle combat, even metro travel that are not utilized at all in the base game.

You get metro travel where you have nothing to do but stay in one place and enjoy the view (if they had more time they would have 100% added some interactivity there, like actually being able to walk at minimum).

You get police chases and vehicle combat that are only utilized in Phantom Liberty related content, and that one police chase with Kerry.

You get romantic hangouts where it’s repetitive piece of dialogue from the base game and a couple of animations, and that’s it. If they had more time, I believe they would have implemented the gta 4-5 style hangouts with friends/romantic partners.

Am I the only one that took this post as saying if the current state of the game was the game we got at LAUNCH..?

Y’all so mad saying “gOtY iS fOr NeW gAmEs OnLy” thinking this guy is saying a 4 year old game deserves current goty lol

I think he’s just saying if the game, as it is now, was what we got at launch, could it have gotten GOTY

I personally think yes. Cyberpunk is one of the craziest games I’ve ever played. With current updates, fixes, reworks, plus phantom liberty…? If we had all this in 2020 yes absolutely it deserves GOTY

For which year? Last year (when PL came out) was one of the most stacked years for gaming in recent memory, if not all time. Even setting aside whether the prompt of the question was right, it still would have some stiff competition

  12. SirLazarusDiapson

If the game was released the way it is right now it would be a contender. But as a previous comment mentioned GOTY is for a game that was released this year or is Super Mario Brothers 2.

  13. The game should have either released in its 1.6.3 state or 2.0 state. Also having the cyberpunk anime air the same in 2020 September, then game launching on December on 1.6.3 or 2.0 and it would have been game of the year easily.

If it released that way, yes. But not since it took so long

  15. Tarushdei

Absolutely. Honestly, I haven’t played a game probably since I played Okami in 2007 that had enthralled me as much as CB2077 has.

I haven’t enjoyed a game this much probably in my life, and this includes my all-time greats like Shadow of the Colossus, Super Metroid and Mass Effect.

Just started playing a second play-through. The first was at launch. The game is like a brand new game for me. Coming from 1. something after launch. To I think 2.12 now and it’s a new game. Im having a blast.

Do you mean if Cyberpunk 2.0 came out in its launch year should it have been GOTY? Absolutely no question!!!

  18. r0bb3dzombie

How about we stop giving a fuck about bullshit awards like goty? It’s marketing crap, has no actaul bearing on how much you personally will enjoy the game, and doesn’t even exist on reality – there is no actual authority on what the goty is.

Jesus, did you people learn nothing from playing this game?

  19. Azurusek1

No, because it’s only for new games. CDPR didn’t win The Game Awards so this is why they released the Ultimate Edition instead of GOTY.

If it would have launched as it was in 1.5 then I don’t think it would be talked about at all in terms of bugs.

Still my favorite game of all time and the only SP game that I have over 1k hours in. 1.5 really was the turning point.

  21. Thanag0r

I don’t think so, it’s just a good game but not a game of the year type.

Maybe cyberpunk 2 will be that but cyberpunk 2077 is just a good game.

  22. jael-jorge-gerson

if it was released like this yeah, it’s much better than tlou2
