Ubisoft shares fall to lowest since 2015, with analysts cutting sales forecasts for Star Wars Outlaws

  1. Surely Assassin’s Creed Shadows will inspire a boost. That game has not had any bad publicity…

  2. OlTommyBombadil

Good, now stop making games for fucking shareholders

Stagnant game design philosophies and overblown expectations in a market feeling the cost of living pinch… why would you expect anything else?

Not to mention some of the poor publicity recently for some of their keystone releases. I’m not expecting Assassins Creed Shadows to perform to their expectations either.

Star Wars needs some kind of break to move on from the prequel era, and then a reboot. The universe as it is is no good.

Honestly I’m just getting tired of Star Wars in general, I miss when the movies had a few good years in between them. You had a handful of projects between the movies but it didn’t feel completely overkilled like it does now. I’m a big Star Wars fan but even I’m getting tired of seeing this franchise putting out content constantly, year around.

Can we just get some new fucking IP?

  7. I cancelled my order when I saw people on PS5 (my platform) had to restart their saves due to game breaking issues. Sure it was early access and would have been fixed by the time I got it but if you’re releasing a game in that state 3 days before the official launch that’s just shitty and I won’t support it.

I just dont think outlaws is good enough to move a lot of units. I mean having mainstream journos giving this game 7s and 6s is not a good sign to move a lot of units. It is what it is. I haven’t played it but this game just doesn’t seem inspired or fun to actually play.

On the other hand, despite its tech issues and rushed development, star wars jedi survivor was a great game, so it sold 50% better in the first week. At least that game feels like it had some heart behind it, some actual puzzle solving and exploration, some good challenging combat and cool areas to explore. It is what it is. Also, it actually had licensed music from the films, imagine that.

That’s what happens when you make bland formulaic games for years…

  10. PikachuAndLechonk

I’ve got about 20 hours in the game so far and I’m loving it. Kinda feels like Starfield but with a Star Wars skin… but I also loved Starfield.

  11. I can’t remember the last time Ubisoft made a great game, I don’t even bother looking at trailers for Ubisoft games anymore

The only good starwars content atm is Andor

I always find it was crazy how Ubisoft is worth only $2 billion and they have 19,000 employees.

I’m enjoying Outlaw on Ubisoft+ on PC and I’m gonna buy AC Shadow Ultimate Edition.

    > revised estimates from 7.5m to 5.5m units now through March

That’s terrible sales for a star wars game. Battlefront (2015) and BF2 (2017) sold 15m and 10m respectively in much shorter time.

Outlaws doesn’t do anything new for games. Reskinning an otherwise stripped down version of Assassins creed into a Star Wars game doesn’t make it cool, and Ubisoft open world games are always rough at launch.

If a star wars game can do something new, and be a star wars game while doing it, then it will be a truly massive hit. KotOR,Jedi Academy, Battlefront and The Force Unleashed really felt like they were pushing the ball forward for their genre. What about outlaws? What’s the appeal beyond Star Wars?

Ubisoft has been making the most meh games in the world for decades. Even the first Assassin’s Creed was a slightly different take on the GTA framework. If you played either Division games you’d know how mediocre Massive is too, they follow the Ubisoft philosophy of shiny paint job over gameplay.

If they finally died the only people upset would be the Black Flag die hards that wanted a good pirate game for once.

Western AAA game development is fracturing at the seams. You can’t just have a mid concept that does nothing special and spend 5+ years developing a mid concept with a 100+ million dollar budget and expect success. You need something special, and you need a brilliant marketing strategy to go with it.

Also western devs heavily underestimate building a brand. You have to consistently release great games, gain gamer’s trust, if you do and it doesn’t have massive success, at least your next project will have fans doing the marketing for you.

How did we go from Kotor/Jed Academy 20 years ago, to this crap??

  19. FranticToaster

Why are so many companies punching theirself in the dick right now? Share prices are hitting malevolent buyout levels all over the place.

  20. justrichie

I swear the AAA Star Wars video game franchise is cursed or something.

I think the only AAA SW game that has not had any controversy is Fallen Order.

EA’s Battlefront released with very little content, and it’s sequel had the loot box dilemma. And then Jedi Survivor released in an unoptimized state and I read that the PC version is still far from smooth today.

  21. sleepybrett

This game is not bad, having fun with it. It’s basically a less annoying assassins creed with a better ship combat subgame. It’s a solid 7.5-8.

  22. I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, Yves Guillemot needs to step down as the CEO. His time is finished and it looks like he’s really incompetent in running the company. He has brought Ubisoft to what it is today with so many bad decisions in the last decade! Someone please start a petition already!

  23. Firamaster

I expect that AC: shadows will also fail to meet expectations and the fallout from that on top of the outlaw underperformance will be interesting to see. It could be an “ouchie” if the game has decent, but poor sales. It could be cataclysmic if the game does Suicide Squad levels of sales.

Just for context, Ubisoft shares peaked at 102.95 EUR back in June of 2018…. and the company currently sells for 15.50 EUR.

The company, deservedly, is not doing too well and hasn’t been for a while. 2022 saw them post a yearly loss of 500 million euros and while other years have been slightly better, with some profits, others have also seen them post losses tho nothing quite that dramatic.

  25. NoStructure507

People are tired of the same garbage. Not to mention one of their core demographics (White males) keep getting told they are trash. So they have stopped buying games.

I have no sympathy. Let them tank.

  26. Captain-Wilco

Word of mouth will do Outlaws very well. It’s a great game, and people who actually play it are spreading the word.

  27. phantom2052

I mean the game looks good but not $70 or $109 good
