As long as directx / opengl, etc. Don’t get updates that finally end support, 1080p games should run fine well into the future until 1080p starts being phased out, which honestly wouldn’t be for a couple of decades.

This is why I’m rocking a nearly 12 year old Antec gaming case. It’s still a great case!! The only thing its missing is USB-C front panel and maybe better AiO support.

does it still feel wrong if you sell the old one? i’ve always taken the attitude that it will be loved and used for its usable lifespan, it’s just a difference of whether that’s with me or someone else.

I had a similar situation with my 770 but made the leap to upgrade anyway. I kept the old card & it helped me trouble shoot issues with several friends PC’s eventually finding a home permanently in a broke friends PC. They paid me back with a giant pot of home made chili lol

I got a 3060ti at retail and sold my 1080 for pretty much the same price when everything went silly.
That GPU was a beast until that point.

My 7 year old 1080ti can still do 60-90fps and on my 90hz display I don’t need to upgrade…
Which is kind of nice considering the Mining–>AI bubble. Hopefully it will pop fully in a year or two when all the big tech companies have their server parkas established and nothing but silly LLM/picture generators to use on them

Well, my GTX 970 somehow still managed to run Rachet & Clank Rift Apart and my almost 10y rig (i5 4690) with it managed to emulate fine all the Gears of War games on Xenia and considering that there’s a bunch of devs that are targeting Steamdeck and now that Lossless Scaling became a thing, I’m still able to run A BUNCH of stuff.

I, for one, am glad my 980 is still going strong. It’s actually outlived my monitor which I just had to replace due to half the screen going green.

So don’t upgrade. I only upgrade every 10 years. My last GPU was a GTX 980. When I started having trouble playing new games at 1080 with settings on low is when I decided to upgrade to the 3080. Now I don’t have to upgrade for another 10 years
