I actually do agree with you to an extent. Im not a bo3 lover myself, but I will say this:the shield and widows wine are not neccesary for survival like the armor is. You can just choose not to build the shield or buy widows wine. Armor on the other hand, you need if you want to live long due to the scaling damage. I dont mind armor personally, but 14 hits is a bit ridiculous.
I personally like the shield in bo2 more where you can use it as a defensive option rather than an offensive option, but both have their pros and cons

Getting (and keeping) all that gear was way more difficult though. Shields were their own side quests and widows was limited by replacing grenades.

That’s a specific situation though (and not a common one either) compared to something that will happen every game. There’s a reason all these first time players easily got to wave 50+ on their first try and if BO3 is as easy as you make it sound surely it would be the same if you put those new players in there.

In absolutely NO WAY, is a one directional temporary shield similar to a fully maintainable body-wide damage reducer that you SPAWN in the map with. Not to mentioning the fact armor will be constantly repaired whereas the shield is tied to a location and buildable.
2ndly, Jug in BO3 makes you go from a base of 3 hits to 5… in CW you start with jugg already on and buying jugg will increase it to 8 or 9 I do believe? Even with out armor this is piss easy.
3rdly, this common misconception of widows wine increasing hits to down needs to go. It has NEVER done this and only freezes zombies around you, you still take full damage from the hit. widows wine is essentially a worse version of a field upgrade in cw.
The thing is though, without even mentioning these points just from the gameplay alone we know for a fact it was far to easy and unbalanced. Yes they may have toned it down, but in case they didn’t, you would never in a million years have see a brand new player get a round 50 on their first attempt on any bo3- with widows, jugg, shield and gobbles for that matter.
And on top of all of that, despite cw and seemingly bo6 having the easiest core difficulty, it also comes with a plethora of get out of jail free cards that didn’t exist in bo3. Cornered? Just aether shroud… cornered again, just chopper gunner… cornered? Dying wish augment activated… cornered again… oh wait I take 14 hits to down so I just kill the zombies and move out of the way.
It’s actually insane that some people wanna argue that bo3 was easy compared to cw and bo6. Yes its the easiest out of the games before it, but at least requires more than one play to max out a map.
