Would you have preferred playing through those 6 months in the introduction (before Act 1), or are you satisfied with the fast-paced storytelling we got?

Definitely. I hope they learn from this for the next game. More game equals more playing game. More playing game equals more fun.

I feel the actual gigs should have been playable, then ending with getting the car, which starts a cutscene for the apartment and a few other things. Being able to see Jackie in action more would have made his death more impactful

It’s unfortunate that we got shown all that stuff instead of being able to experience it but it would either be super locked off or very minimal gameplay if we did get to play it. It could have been a decent introduction into the gameplay and also alow us to start developing our builds a little but overall it’s okay to make act 1 + 2 seem more impressive

As much as I’m enjoying Phantom Liberty, I would have loved more time with Jackie.

I feel like getting to play at least one gig with him before would have been really cool, even if it were kinda isolated from the rest of the game.

In my opinion, the game would work even better if it were a trilogy, mainly because of the relationships with other characters (especially with Johnny and Jackie) and the impacts they would have. In the context of the story and the universe it makes sense that everything happens “quickly”, but if the whole game were a trilogy we would have more time to develop the feeling of connection with other characters (This exists in the game and is already done in a very good way) and the death of certain characters would be much more impactful and the endings would be even stronger.

I mean, Jackie is literally created just to die,l.

I would have liked more time with Jackie. They could have done another intro that limited you to the Glen awhile.

Yeah. I mean the heist was just a lot less tense because they literally spoiled it in the game’s trailer, and on top of that we didn’t really get to spend all that much time with Jackie so his death didn’t really hit that hard imo

I understand why they did it that way to get all the life paths on the same page before the heist and to get to the Johnny stuff as soon as possible but yeah I would’ve preferred if act 1 was a bit longer so we could bond with Jackie and get to know the life a bit

I wish they’d do a DLC that is a prequel of their time during that time with Jackie. I want to see how they become friends and learn more about V’s backstory as well.

  12. I really wish I got to play all those gigs. Even if the leveling was slow. I wish the game established itself as a partner shooter. Jackie really contributing to the missions. You save him. He saves you. Like you wouldn’t get through them without him sometimes, and he’d fail without you. And sometimes, you fail together…

It would’ve made the gut punch in the heist even worse…

  13. Definitely would have preferred to play through the montage to experience the early part of V’s merc career. Tis a shame that CDPR decided to go the route they did (*still an excellent game overall*).

  14. i-see-the-fnords

Playing through that whole montage would be way too much.

But I do think that an extra gig with Jackie before getting to the heist would have been nice… it needs to be enough that you get more attached to him as a partner, but not so much that it starts taking over the game.

No. Act One’s kinda long already especially when you can’t skip it.

  16. I enjoy that they at least had the decency to show us the progression between the two in those months rather than just having Jackie be like: “It’s been a hell of a year V! Think about all those times!”

  17. verdantsf

I know we won’t get it, but I’ve always wanted a prequel DLC where we get to actually play through all of the missions in the montage.

  18. IntentionalX

It would have been great, actually have time to form a proper bond with Jackie, then they do the fat drop midway through the game that Jackie dies and you get the relic

  19. Marshmallow413

I would love the option. Give you the choice to skip that portion and start where we start, or play through it and get more opportunities to see the connections develop, so the later situations hit you more.

Even just one more job would have been enough to make me care at least a little bit. From my perspective, I met him like 2 hours ago and had a grand total of like 5 conversations with the guy.

I realize that he had spent several months with V, but people being too familiar too quickly (which it was from my perspective as a player) is off-putting to me, so that made me give even less of a damn that he died.

Honestly, I always roleplay that the story we got *was* slow-paced. After the conversation in Dex’s car, I just imagine that the run-up and planning for the heist took a few weeks/months, and that every available gig and piece of content in Watson is the story of V ‘stepping up’, like they talked about with Vic. I always have the Axolotl by the time I actually start the Heist.

I actually just started the game for the first time a few weeks ago. The opening was super disappointing in large part because of that… you get sent on a mission, just start the mission, then jump forward 6 months with a montage… that and the whole lifepaths feeling like nothing more than some flavor text have been huge letdowns for me.

It felt like there was an entire act worth of content that they just never finished ans just skipped over. Could’ve done a few missions in the lifepath before the mission thay you meet Jackie. Then a few jobs with Jackie to flesh things out.
