Everyone says “defender is all you need” then you run a third party scanner and find stuff like this. Most modern malware is going to try and be silent, non-intrusive, and either steal your credentials or mine crypto… so you never think there’s a problem.

I use Norton and some common sense for my pc. I try to stay away from very shady website. I wanted to use Bitdefender Anti-virus, but Norton has VPN included.

If you guys have win11 pro just use the windows sandbox when doing shady stuff. It’s an easy to use live vm so it should be safe

I’ve been building and using computers since the early 90’s and have never had a virus (not to say it couldn’t happen) but these things aren’t like a cold where you can catch it by someone breathing on you. You have to do something to get them. Practice safe computing and your chances go way down. If I was you, I wouldn’t even try and clean this. The best thing is to wipe you computer and reinstall everything. I would also be careful about what you carry over to your new install. if it’s not super important ditch it, if it is then isolate it on a thumb drive and scan it before writing to your new setup.

Just reinstall windows at this point. Take all as a lost and don’t fucking use this system to make a windows installation usb stick.
