It all depends on what you have in your pc. The ryzen 5 5600x is a very solid cpu
Really depends on your current build.
The 5600x is a very good budget option. This CPU will work with up to a 3080 on 1080p without a serious bottleneck.
Will also work fine with a 4080 on 1080p you’ll just experience a CPU bottleneck on most titles.
A bottleneck is when one part is too weak to “support” another. its the easiest explanation.
It means if your CPU is too weak for your GPU, it (CPU) can hold you GPU back therefore not getting the full potential of your GPU.
If you have a 2k monitor then a 3090/4070TiS will most likely be good on most titles (good as in not bottlenecked)
If you have a 4k monitor/TV then even a 4090 will be good with this CPU.
Honestly, that’s all up to you mate.
Personally I tend to keep my parts as emergency backups, but if you could do with a couple of hundred quid then there’s nothing wrong with selling it 👍
Honestly, that CPU is pretty worthless now, better to throw it in the trash cover in bubble wrap so it doesn’t get damaged. Oh, and take a picture and location of where you threw that away, for research
If your not going to use it i will happily take it. great for a modern budget build.
i’m with 5600x and 2060 super and i’m playing any game i want without any serious issues on 1080p and even on 1440p if it is not one of the terribly optimized modern AAAAAAAAAh games
Should hold up pretty well and any 5000x3d will be a drop in replacement and push your system into 4090 valid teritorium
It’s top end am4 motherboard. Will be actual 10+ years from now, not less.
Keep as backup parts? Never know when you’re gonna need to troubleshoot your PC or pass it forward to a family member/friend who needs a platform upgrade or sell it, it’s up to you, really.
I personally have backup parts in case I need to troubleshoot my PCs. I’m not on “Brian the tech hoarder” levels of spare parts, though.
Solid mother board and cpu. I have that motherboard with a 5800x3d now but it used to be paired with the 5600x. Is it an upgrade from what you have? Keep it. Is it not? Sell it.
Keep or sell? If you have a use for it, keep it. If you have no use for it, sell it.
Also, if don’t know what you have, are you sure he gave you an upgrade? Be interesting to see what it is you traded up to.
Worth selling. I sold my 7 year old z170-a, 6600K, 16GB as a combo for $100. That’s $100 I didn’t have to spend for my next build.

Keep it for now and use it. Can always upgrade the whole pc later. That board and cpu should still be good for another couple years.
This is the best cheap X570 mobo and a decent CPU, a strong foundation for a powerful PC
Great budget build starter kit. 5600x is a solid 6 core chip and AM4 has been supported a long time. I actually run a 5600/rtx 3070 in my mini-ITX setup and it’s perfect for 1080p and some 1440p. Only 65w too so it’s easy to cool.
As for whether it’s an upgrade, depends what you have. But a cheap cooler, ram, boot drive, and used gpu will make that a solid secondary pc.
Sell it and use the money to get better components for your new build
that’s a very solid CPU, if you can pair it with a decent GPU (mb a 30/4060), some RAM and a M.2 SSD you have a pretty much almost modern gaming pc
You should be set for years with this. I think it can handle a rtx 4070 without a major bottleneck. You could always upgrade the cpu to a 5700x3d or 5800x3d if you want to use a more powerful gpu than a 4070.

It’s a nice CPU, I am using it for time being. I’ll upgrade my PC once the 5000 series is dropped and I’ll decide to switch the CPU because then it won’t be able to keep up with the GPU and other components. For now, it is the best CPU for my RTX 3080. The combination offers amazing 1440p performance slightly older titles and keeps up on current titles. Haven’t tested the brand new games but from what I see, my set-up is getting out dated.

Depending on the mobo size I would try to build a travel build that you bring places

I still have my Pc I built in 2014. I looked up the components and it would still sell for a good 200-300 for a solid 1080p mid gaming pc.
Kept it – I just enjoy looking at it sometimes. So decide for yourself if you need some extra cash or a decoration piece
