Yep, we’re basically buying software nowadays

While I get it for some games, you people need to realize that insanely high fidelity games aren’t going to run at 50000fps just because you spent a ton of money.

There should be a niche for games that push boundaries where mid and high tier cards are going to chug, this was normal 15-20 years ago idk what the big deal is now.

This sub is unbearable. The misspelled DLSS is too perfect though.

What you have a problem with isn’t lack of optimization, it’s the performance targets of games. If I optimize a game so that it runs on a 4090 at 4k native at 100 fps, what do I do, release it like that? Of course not, it’s a clear sign I have room to add more stuff on screen, more effects, more RT bounces, etc. I am going to add stuff to that game until it runs at 4k DLSS Quality on a 4090 at 60 fps. Because that means it will run on a card 1/4th of a 4090 (so a 2060/2060 Super or so) at 60 fps on 720p render resolution (1080p DLSS Q/1440p DLSS P). So that pretty much cover the spectrum of cards people can have. (With lower end cards lowering more settings, more render resolution etc for the ~10-20% of people on steam that have lower than a 2060. Consoles are also 2070 Super equivalent or so)

You will notice all games get pushed to that or even a bit further if they can make the game look better because what if you run DLSS Performance 4k on a 4090? You should have extra settings for that too. What if you run a 5090? And so on.

GPU optimization is not seen in FPS, it’s seen in how pretty the game looks. CPU optimization however can be a problem and is what usually people actually have issues with in some games but some are too dumb to realize they’re being CPU bottlenecked in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and blame their GPU anyway.

I’m starting to think buying that 4090 in 2024 might’ve been a mistake.

If it can’t even run Dead Space remake or Jedi Survivor at a locked frame rate, due to both games having engine-related persistent traversal stuttering issues ruining any sense of fluidity, then what’s the point?

It’s an equivalent of ” devs do something!” as if “optimization” is a magic word. How many of us have a clue what optimization would even entail? The only issue widely known is the shader compilation stutter, other than that, I think most people don’t have a clue what could be done to truly optimize a game.

Haven’t you heard? They optimize for 30 fps on consoles now, and port that heap over to PC with as little added cost as possible as an afterthought.

Games are being optimized. They’re just not being optimized to run native or ultra high fps. They’re being optimized for graphics, which, let’s be honest, is what MOST people buy. They don’t buy fps or resolutions. They buy detail.

    Now people realise?!

Called it since DLSS 1 first released. Saw it coming when DLSS 1 was first announced/showcased/mentioned. The abuse of this tech from the fucking devs!
