I went to one of these “retro” stores recently… It’s just a regular GameStop with a small section for older titles that were extremely overpriced. If you’re in the market for retro gaming, try and find a local game store instead… Chances are you’ll get a better deal and will support people that actually give a shit.

It’s actually impressive that GameStop still exists at this day and age.

I’ll stick with the local pnp games

  4. Oh great so now GameStop will rip people off on buying retro games and rip people off when selling retro games.

When my GameStop actually has more games than funkos/shirts/toys maybe I’ll go back.

you gotta be real careful if you are gonna buy these games from gamestop. I highly doubt they have a good system to detect fakes and I doubt the underpaid employees are gonna give a shit either.

  6. Oh so now they’re all about selling retro games and conserving them and not literally shredding unsold merch like they used to.

  7. I hope they have Barbie Horse Adventures for PS2.

GameStop sucks. They shipped me two broken consoles in a row and then expected me to pay the shipping to have them replaced. Never again.

  9. I miss GameStop ,it was fun to visit their stores when I was younger

  10. Can’t wait to get offered $5 trade in credit for my copy of Megaman X

I might have an answer to this. In the Tulsa market, they piloted a new program with several different themed Gamestop stores concepts. In doing so, they renovated about 7 stores (to the best of my memory based on the newspaper article about it).

One store in a city called Pryor, abut an hour outside of Tulsa, was renovated as a retro store. The back half of the store was set up with several CRT’s and retro gaming consoles connected to them. You could just pop in and play those games on the TV’s. They also did have a cabinet dedicated to retro consoles and games that you could buy.

I went once to check it out and I thought it was a neat concept. Better than some of the other ones (I don’t remember what all of them were, but I think one was themed like an early 2000’s cybercafe). The time I went to the retro themed store, they were doing weekly challenges on retro games. They seemed to be having fun with it, and I assumed that was somewhat because retro gaming is fun (my own bias) and mostly because knowing that their store was chosen for renovation likely meant that their store was safe from being closed in the immediate future.

I found a couple of links… [This one](https://bleedingcool.com/games/gamestop-2-0-a-retail-renaissance-pt-1/) talks about the pilot program and [this one](https://bleedingcool.com/games/gamestop-2-0-a-retail-renaissance-pt-5/) shows photos of the retro themed store in Pryor. [Here’](https://x.com/LordBalvin/status/1173693643535867906)s a xweet (I really don’t know what we’re calling these now) about it.
