I came home the other morning to find my gaming chair completely missing. Whatever I have my old gaming chair not the end of the world. I go to turn on my PC and the MB flashes quickly and nothing. Great. I take a look and find a small piece of damage on the MB. Looks like someone too a screwdriver and snapped off some soldering. Well shit. Later I finally notice two capacitors missing on my MB and they are not in my case or anywhere to be found. I confront the guy and eventually he admits to everything without me mentioning what I noticed was wrong. Great… call PD, make a report for criminal damage. I buy a new MB. Spend roughly 3 hours taking everything apart and rebuilding it. Go to switch it on and I hear a pop and the system shuts down. “WTF?!” I unplug the Graphics card and boot the system. Everything runs normally, okay great. Plug the PCIE back in and no boot just a flash. I take the GPU apart and he managed to pull a capacitor off of that as well. Once again capacitor is nowhere to be found so it’s obvious he ripped it off. At this point I’m fuming, seconds from an absolute assault on this man. He gives me the keys to the apartment and leaves voluntarily. I go buy a new GPU and finally. Everything boots and runs.
Why did he do this? He wouldn’t answer that. I guess I’ll find reasoning in court hopefully. We didn’t get into a fight or argument it is seemingly unprovoked at this point.
Moral of the story. Don’t ever help anyone when nobody else will. I give you a place to lay your head, shower, cook, and feel safe and this is how you repay me. Utter POS.
On the bright side… I now have a massive upgrade of MB and GPU. And I will be pursuing all legal action for my money spent, items damaged, item stolen, and time spent.
Thanks for reading my rant.

Wow. Sounds like you lived with a crazy person, luckily that’s the worst it got. I might change my locks if I were you.
Looks like someone was jealous…
This is fucked man. I was raised to always help out people who are down on their luck if you can. But I learned a long time ago, if someone doesn’t have anyplace else to go and no one else in their life who will help them out, there is usually a reason for that. They’ve already burned those bridges.
Hopefully, this wierdo is out of your life for good once the legal shit is over.

Uh…
Were you not concerned at this point where the chair ended up?
Like, I don’t care if I have a spare chair, if one of the largest objects in my office went missing I would have looked through my ring camera footage and called the police immediately.
The damage they did was so oddly specific too, like stealing the chair and PC and selling it I get, but why did they want to damage your motherboard and GPU so minimally?
Ig it’s time for a new housemate
That sucks and I’m sorry.
I feel like there’s a lot important details missing from this story that aren’t necessarily PC gaming related
Maybe it was the *nekomimi. (*At least that’s what ChatGPT told it is called)
sounds like dude was on meth. Tweakers do this kind of shit.
meth dude. people tinker with shit for no reason on meth.
Dude who lived in my house would have got his ass whooped
That’s a good way to not eat solid food again where I’m from.
Mental health issues for sure. It’s good to help people. I hope you never stop doing that. But to what capacity requires a drop of wisdom and “arms length” safety for you, your peeps and your stuff.
Lovers quarrel
Wonder when everyones gonna get the memo about homeless people
You don’t understand the capacitors were trying to reprogram him into a her!
That damage looks incredibly neat tho, those caps were desoldered and the holes refilled. I don’t know what mobo that is but this post smells a bit as even I would have a hard time getting a desolder like that looking that neat.
Having looked at previous images of OP’s board it actually looks like those caps were removed. Insane work tho.
Dude definitely fucked with OP’s stuff somehow but tbh it’s kinda hard to snap off a cap that cleanly; in fact those solder pads look untouched. Look for high-res photos of the exact motherboard in a review or something, were those spots populated in the first place?
That’s straight up mental illness
I wonder if he was so high that he thought the illuminati was listening on him, so he thought to take out the capacitors cos he watched a conspiracy video on some site.
Smh.
I’m glad it’s all up and going again. Sorry for your troubles for helping someone
what motherboard do you have? maybe the capacitors were not there to begin with?
sorry but off topic! I love your wall paper!? Can you link it or send it to me please!
