Recently built this PC and I am unable to get the RAM to pass stress tests above 6800Mhz. My kit can reach 7200mhz XMP (supposedly) and from reading the forum this should be very doable on the i7 14 series.
- CPU I7 14700KF
- PSU Water Cooler LT 720
- Memory G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB, 32GB (2x16GB) 7200 MHZ
- MOBO Asus ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX ENCORE
- GPU RTX 4080 SUPER GALAX

I suspect your CPU IMC is what is holding you up. Your board and memory are excellent and shouldn’t be the issue.
You’ll need to play with the associated voltages for your memory controller. CPU SA, CPU VDD2 (called CPU IMC on ASUS boards), and VDDQ TX. These voltages will have sweetspots, meaning higher won’t always be better.
Have a look at what your board is using by default for these voltages and post it here if possible.
I’d probably recommend 1.1v CPU SA, and between 1.3-1.4v for CPU IMC and VDDQ TX. You can very safely put up to 1.4v into these, even 1.45v into the latter two (IMC and VDDQ TX).
I also recall on a recent post for a similar reason that there is a potential bug in 14th gen chips regarding CPU SA, specifically, that causes instability when at 1.2v or above? I’d do some reading on that as I’m just not that familiar, but it’s why I recommended 1.1v.
you using a mounting frame by any chance?
I’m curious whether there’s a specific reason why you’d want to push past 6800MT/s as I’m stuck with exactly this frequency on my older hynix m-dies. Performance shouldn’t increase that much after this point if you tighten the timings.
