One of many reasons why 2024 gaming is…. bad. Early access to an Open beta. U pay.. to play an unfinished game. Remember when we had DEMOS ? For free? And everyone could play at the same time.

Yeah and all the publishers figured out sales dropped when people played demos….

  2. Kirzoneli

so because of something that’s been around for longer than this year. This year is bad?

  3. Combine54

I think that pre order bonuses such as this are rather harmless compared to other alternatives.

  4. Superdogbiter1

I remember when demo discs came in the mail with a gaming magazine

  5. DiggingPodcast

Listen – I’m no defender of activision – but the free open beta is the week after.

If we’re gonna try and make any change (lol) let’s at least be truthful on ‘our’ side

  6. mestrenandi

Gaming in 2024 is only bad if you play bad games

  7. SweetPuffDaddy

I agree with you, but just saying COD has been doing this for like 10+ years with early and closed access to betas. This isn’t anything new with them.

  8. Anubra_Khan

We still have DEMOS. For free. One of many reasons why 2024 gaming is awesome.

  9. viciadoemsono

…..you know there’s gonna be a open beta for everyone right?

  10. COD_ricochet

This is how COD has done this for many many years. So you’ll have to search how long it’s been and then say why gaming has been bad for the past X years.

Research shit before you call a specific year out.

  11. Sethazora

    gaming in 2024 is great.

just stop trying to play AAA shit. they’ve been banking on brand name recognition and minimum viable products for a while.

The rest of the industry is the best it’s ever been. we’ve got games of every genre for every type of player and budget.

  12. AnimeGokuSolos

Cool Idc I’m pre-ordering this COD BO6 for my 23 birthday cuz it’s my decision and I’m hype for this game.

  13. BenignBarry

BO6 is on Xbox gamepass and if you have a subscription I’m pretty sure you get the early access

  14. thomasmagnun

My guy, there is literally a free, open beta the weekend after. You don’t need to pay for that. Stop rage baiting people.

  15. homiegeet

This isn’t exactly new? Been happening for a few cods now. You’re buying the game early to play early beta
    You aren’t buying the beta.

  16. mayodude5101

Early access has been around for like a decade it’s not new

  17. Existing365Chocolate

You can pre/order and refund as long as it is before launch

Also the beta is free for everyone, you can just play a few days early if you pre-order

  18. LemurMemer

I liked how they allowed you to play the campaign a week early when preordering, disappointed that’s not happening with this release

  19. crnppscls

I’m not an expert but you could just not pre-order it.

With a franchise, people generally know what they’re getting to an extent, so the milking machine can go full tilt.

They’ve gotta keep up the social stuff you realise.

I’m waiting until it goes on sale doesn’t endear you to your codbros

  20. I mean this has been a thing for like 10 years now?

  21. 24Gokartracer

Correct me if I’m wrong. But like it states… it’s *early access* to the beta. Theres two weekends it takes place one week is the early access the second week is for everybody whether you preorder the game or not

  22. Sypticle

For starters, there is an open beta, which you state in the title.. Second, you can always cancel the pre-order. Third, people are going to buy COD every year. Who cares? No one is pre-ordering the game to play the beta.

  23. MR_MEME_42

Listen kid if you think that pre-ordering to get a week early access to a beta (which is only like a month before launch so 90% of the game is already finalized) is the end of the world I honestly don’t know what to tell you…

Fun fact the week after everyone has access to the OPEN beta and they have been doing this same thing for years. EARLY access to the beta is one of the benefits among benefits such as additional skins.

  24. CotaEvandro

dont people say for gamers to vote with their wallet? well this is what gamers ”voted” for

no one else to blame but people that still buy these yearly franchises and their mtx

  25. FistsofHulk

Go play the demo for Emio The Smiling Man Famicom Detective Club

  26. Hangman_17

….theres a lot of reasons id say gaming has issues but call of duty has done this since like… black ops 3. Almost ten years ago. In fact, of the things call of duty does, this is probably among the most harmless. Preorder the game? Beta goes live a day or two early. That isn’t really a scam, or some kind of underhanded tactic. Its just a preorder bonus. Which is even older than the early access beta.

I wish people who tried to critique gaming had a little more common sense than this

  27. ItsMrDante

I mean it’s the Beta’s early access, it’ll be free for everyone later on. I don’t see this as a problem.

For online games where you want to get in while it early (to learn the game while others are learning the game), I think the return policy (for steam anyway) needs to be more than 2 hours.

I tried to give Battlefield 2042 the benefit of the doubt on launch. Wait for them to fix their issues/optimizations… But in order to play and encounter those issues it took more than 2 hours/14 days. Steam rejected my refund after about a month and 6 hours of gameplay… But that “6 hours” was barely playing.

This year it was similar for Helldivers 2. Near launch I was crashing every 3 missions or every 2 hours. They would patch the game and fix one crash, and cause 2 more. It’s just a shame you have to play through the 2 hour return window to find out, the game is going to be crashing every 2 hours now.

Everybody has different issues when it comes to that, so it’s not like reading a review. Some people will tell you “I never crashed in Helldivers 2” but it was pretty widespread. So I think the refund policy needs work.

I don’t think the same rules would apply to single player games or it becomes something people can abuse.

  29. Dischord821

Hey dude you’re like 10 years late to this conversation

  30. Don’t pay and don’t pre-order. Problem will be solved immediately

  31. Notmainlel

It’s just a pre order bonus, it’s not like wow where you had to pay an extra $40 for early access

  32. CohesiveMocha34

The free open beta is like a week later lol

You pay for the privilege to get it even earlier

Atleast TRY and not be biased

  33. Tarc_Axiiom

What does Early **Open** Beta Access mean?

Does Activision know what Open means?

  34. TheRoscoeVine

Not just demos, beta access used to be unpaid invites. Dicks.

  35. Either this is a rage bait post or OP doesn’t know what they are talking about.

No, you’re not paying for an “unfinished game”. This also isn’t comparable to a demo. And no, beta access for people who preordered the game has been a thing for 10+ years and even before COD did it.

But I guess people prefer to bash on Activision because “cod bad lol” instead of actually use their brain.
