I don’t care what platform you play on, this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen a first-party studio do

I am not disabled but I want that one hand controller as my daily game companion.

Two hand typical controllers limits the hand movements and I realised that after using the joycons.

Finally I can get an Xinput split controller with Xbox layout and analog triggers which isn’t bad ergonomically.

Its good to see them and Sony making more inclusive controllers. They both seem to be pushing each other forward in this department.

  3. angelvicious

I’ve always wanted a controller that was more ergonomic.

What’s funny is this isn’t their first accessible controller, but you really wouldn’t guess it because they never advertised for the original at all. Microsoft’s plan for Xbox has been wonky for the past four-five years.

I bought the original xbox adaptive controller and Sony’s adaptive controller for people with limited mobility, and it’s honestly such a game changer (pun intended). The other controller I’d recommend (based on movement) is the wii mote. That does take more creativity though than the official ones.

This is amazing. For so many people disabled physically or mentally gaming or other digital spaces are one of the few ways to connect with other people on ‘the same level’. Being able to be anyone you want and be powerful by merit. Brings me great joy to see these kinds of controllers. Can’t wait for them to 360 noscope me and teabag my corpse. 😉

I’m surprised they got around the patent for the nunchuk.

These controllers have come a long way, Sony has a good one., I dont know about Nintendo. Its great to see companies putting money and effort into this

  9. Super_Harsh

These are the sort of gaming accessibility improvements that we actually need.

Still no hall effect sticks and no gyro? Damage control. Make decent controllers for everyone first and not try to hide behind disabled people.

How did they cover all the buttons? I can see 4 main buttons, but no D-pad and no second set of front buttons. I assume the other analog stick is substituted by simply moving the whole controller, right? And where are start and select? I think this guy did it better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1hht2D5cvE.

  12. Good move from Xbox!

I can’t wait for the Xbox Sebile Controller to release.

Nice, xbox has been kinda big on accessibility for awhile now. Since 2014, Microsoft and Special Olympics have been teaming up,This partnership has evolved through the years and now includes a yearly Gaming for Inclusion tournament presented by Special Olympics,Microsoft and Xbox..In 2019, they created what is now known as the “ Gaming for Everyone Product Inclusion Framework” that provides developers with tools The framework focuses on four key areas approachability, representation, globalization and accessibility. Xbox also provides accessibility support at gaming events such as gamescom.and created a Game Accessibility Workshop Toolkit available for all developers. The toolkit includes instructions and visual assets to help game developers conduct Game Accessibility Workshops on their own. Combining the power of Microsoft Inclusive Design with Xbox’s approach to game accessibility, the toolkit makes it easier for developers to design with accessibility in mind,

    I’m kinda buzzed, it’s all because…

I loved playing Pokemon Sword/Shield on Switch because you could play it with a single joycon and it made it such a comfortable game to play not having to hold a controller with both hands, just having it rest by my side. More ways to play benefit everyone and these are the sorts of innovations that we need, not only to bring more people into the gaming community, but to make gaming more enjoyable for everyone

  17. TheMassiveLiability

It’s good to see Xbox enter into this space.

  18. Yeah this is very cool, it took Sony way too long to come up with a similar offering but its awesome they did.

Can’t believe either of these is a good business move on the companies’ part but its hard to measure the margins of feel good wins like these.

    This is good stuff.

VR is also making a push in the same direction. If you look at this controller, and Quest 3 controllers, for example, they look very much the same. And Quest tracks its controllers fully, so you have full 6 degrees of freedom. What’s more, starting I think with original Quest, but definitely with Quest 2, they started doing hand tracking now. So you don’t need a controller at all, it actually tracks your actual hands. So you can push buttons, type, etc., on a virtual keyboard. There’s also a built-in mic so if you can do voice commands, there’s that. And they’re now adding an AI copilot that will handle it even more gracefully.

So in terms of accessibility, gamers have options now. I’m going blind, so for me VR is amazing, because you’re not looking at a game on the screen, you are inside the game. So everything is much closer, bigger, with proper scale and depth. You also don’t look around by moving a mouse or pressing a key, you look around by just turning your eyes, or your head. So for me VR is considerably more playable. For example in Fallout 4 on flat screen, I could be standing in front of a shelf with a bunch of stuff on it. But that shelf is a small image, on a smaller screen, on a monitor, which is an arm’s reach away from me. So I can’t make out the stuff on the shelf, or at least not easily. But in VR, in the same game, I’m the character, I’m in the room, the shelf is life-size, as are objects on it. I can also lean in, or reach out with my hands and pick them up, etc. Makes it actually playable for me.

There are controller adapters for any controller on any platform (I use an Xbox One controller on Switch). So things like this should be useful for anyone who needs it.

  21. Impressive_Spray6630

The wii nunchuck is back bitchs

  22. reddit_pleb42069

Its an ad and they show no gameplay with the stuff either. How about posting at least a review or something and not a fucking ad lol

  23. Digita1B0y

That s is super cool, I just hope there’s an Xbox to play it on in the next generation of console releases. 😮‍💨

  24. muskovitzj

I wholeheartedly agree. It would be cool for Sony to try and equate this.

IT WOULD BE EVEN COOLER if Microsoft decided to make it usable on other platforms… would make them a TON of money

  25. KingKimShepard

That’s just awesome, man. This is what I think companies and developers should focus on when discussing accessibility in games. I know people are so focused on “easy” and “hard” mode, but I end up thinking what if the person with disabilities could simply enjoy the game in the same way a non-disabled person can? I don’t think it comes from playing a less difficult game, rather the equipment to make the gamer as abled as the everyday gamer is more like it.

Again, just plain awesome to see the advancements.

  26. TSPGamesStudio

Not their first, probably not their last. It’s cool seeing game companies include everyone.
