Oh no, he helped V in a manner of speaking, and was one of my favorite minor characters. I always paid him as well
LoneWolf622
He deserved it
Lorihengrin
I paid him everytime, because there is nothing more expensive than a free favor.
Kalaam_Nozalys
It’s only fair and polite.
plakio99
Does it change anything if you don’t pay?
neon_hellscape
Nah I always pay him, the amount is chump change compared to my V’s total wealth.
DedicatedDetective34
Pay him or not, he still offers you the same service. He wants you to get rid of negative thoughts and slow down for a moment.
As simple as his quests were, I feel like it added so much to the world building. Yeah, V’s dying and all, but to have a quiet moment is bliss.
em_paris
Nah, I always pay everybody. Money is easy to come by for V. Sometimes you need it to get, what, a 2% increase on heat damage with a certain mod for a certain weapon? Usually my V is sitting on 100s of thousands offering to pay a couple hundred. They’ll be alright
Viper_Visionary
That amount of eddies is negligible, so you might as well pay him. I always do.
Faceless_Deviant
Its peanut money.
CapriciousSon
I mean that’s just pocket change for V. Why the hell not?
AnotherWhiteHero
No, I even wish we had the option to give the begging npcs and him even more.
digitalbladesreddit
Na as far as VR games go, this might be actually worth the experience š
Coyotesamigo
The economy in this game is so fucked there is literally no reason to not spend a few hundred eddies. Even after reducing the number of loot guns you get, you can still make 50k after a single big fight sometimes I sell 200k out of my inventory.
Poolturtle5772
No, he deserves it for the help he provides.
NikushimiZERO
Nah, though I do wish there was a difference in outcome if you did or didn’t pay him. I pay him every time.
Alisora
With the amount of eddies you make with the side quests alone, paying the monk feels like a small donation
550mAhLiHV
Nuh, he’s a good lad, pay him up
TXHaunt
At least heās not spouting random conspiracy theories to anyone and everyone.
iknowmyname389
Its pocket change, i always pay him and gary the prophet
0neirocritica
I paid him the most I could. I also spent the most I could on Garry when he asked for money, and donated the max amount for his statue. Eddies are nothing to me, and there’s far more frivolous things I could be spending the money on in Night City.
ClevelandEmpire
Him and Gary get max pay 100% of the time
Big_Satisfaction9919
Those trips were dope though! Worth every eddie!Ā So peaceful and invigorating šš³ We thank you spirit of water!Ā
meimelx
Meh I always pay him. It was fun showing up somewhere and boom Mr. Monk is there ready to provide V with a much-needed moment of peace. Besides, V has more money than I know what to do with.
somecrazydude13
Annnndd heās disappeared again
4lc4tr4y
He gets his money like Gary and every vet I meet in the streets, there is not enough life in my body to spend all my money.
WordsmithKC
Hey, a monk’s gotta eat too, you know. Don’t mind giving him the creds for a scop dog.
DaDawkturr
At first, it was nothing because you need to keep your guard up in Night City when someone offers you something for āfreeā.
When it was legit, I started paying him everything I could.
Fart_connoisseur1
Gonk. He’s a monk, the opposite of materialistic or greedy. Dude dgaf about money lol. I actually thought that was the test during our interactions lol. So I never gave him an eddy. Same ending either way.
melkor_the_viking
It’s an interesting questline, keep going.
randomdragn
He wants to bring us peace, I would pay him more if I could
Maximus_Games
For my Nomad V, I paid him, because he’s generally a good choom who feels like doing a good deed by giving someone eddies.
For my Corpo V, I still paid him, because he doesn’t know any other language: as a corpo, power and money rule over everything, and you may take the rat out of the corpo life, but you can’t take the corpo life out of the rat. When you live a life ruled by cash, not paying for something feels odd, and free stuff is too suspicious.
Best_Confection_8788
I always pay him. Eddieās are near meaningless to me.
Supernove_Blaze
How strapped for cash in game are you that you can’t afford 377 eddies? Mercs really be having it real tough rn šš
life_lagom
No. Always give COH as much as you can [the homeless profit]
Senshue
I wish I couldāve paid him more. He deserves it
biochamberr
I always pay him, too

Paying the Monk is gonk… Real chooms donate to Garryš¤”
WanderingVigilante
You guys forget that this is actually supposed to encourage the player to try meditation. Have you ever tried following the monks guidance?
YouLose_TheGame
The total is less than like 2000 I pay every time.
FufuLameShi0
Yes, you are not void yet of your mortal necessity for material items. Itās a test
Hattix
My favourite NPC. Not only does no other NPC meaningfully interact with him, but Johnny outright says he cannot see him.Ā
This guy is not only in keeping right Cyberpunk’s setting, but he’s breaking the fourth wall. The instructions he gives are real, and just as useful to you, the player, as they could be to V.
philipjfry1578
Does gonk rhyme with monk, or does monk rhyme with gonk?
Unlimitles
It shows you arenāt a money grubbing materialist.
And the messages are talking about staying pure.
Always pay attention to the concept of what the quotes are talking about, thatās in all philosophy really not just this.
The concept they are getting you to imagine and think on is the goal.
Like all the quotes are talking about purification in different ways, their words donāt really matter, the idea of purifying yourself is.
Then you thinking about what purification means comes next. You have to figure out how to do that in yourself, so that you can be pure yourself.
Now connect this to what the whole game is aboutā¦..cyberpsychos and other details to what causes themā¦.
Like how Lucy says that night city has a rampant unchecked bacterial infection problem.
Now connect that with the concept of purification, and realize that most people in NC are impure as far as keeping their systems (bodies) clean, and this is causing their increasingly paranoid and anxious state, which escalates into full blown cyberpsychosis.

A few hundred eddies? That’s a tip. You gonna pay the man or not
