ELI5: I am not exactly an AMD fanboy, but how do these specs make sense? Ryzen 5 5600X should blow I5 10400F out of the water, no? I could understand if it said 12400 as that makes a lot more sense. Marvel Rivals recommended specs

Sometimes it’s simply what they had at hand to test things on

10400 is on the same level of a 3700X and 5600X when it comes to gaming performance.

I think the minimum and recommended specs are usually based on whatever hardware they have. They don’t have every single GPU and CPU

Ive noticed this on several games. With 1000 and 2000 CPUs I can kinda get it, the architecture was still maturing and had some teething issues in the finer points of performance, but it goes well past 3000 as well, where core for core and clock for clock AMD has pretty much caught up, but somehow AMD CPUs need two cores more to play the same game.

    It’s whatever they have around.

They won’t go through every single CPU and GPU, to find out where exactly the sweetspot is where you got exactly 60fps@Medium settings.

They ask who had X FPS, and what hardware did you have, then they take the lowest point of each and put that as the Minimum spec.

The 10400 is like 15% slower in isolated benchmarks with direct comparisons, but it’s a reasonable chip to put next to the 5600X when trying to get around the same gaming performance.

Remember that most people with a 5600X or a 10400 aren’t going to be using either chip to its full potential in gaming – they’re going to be GPU bottlenecked by a mid range or lower end GPU. That’s exactly how it should be with mid-range CPUs; they won’t be the limiting factor when gaming, it’ll be your GPU.

TL;DR: when paired with the recommended GPU like a 2060 or 5700 XT, both chips would provide performance that is *very* similarly decent

  7. Recommended specs are made up. There is no industry standard for how they’re determined or what they mean.

For some developers, recommend specs are from a system they tried playing the game on and it was fine.

For some, minimum specs was literally the bare minimum it took to just launch the game, not play it.

Some developers, now, will actually bother to mention what performance/experience you can expect for the hardware, something like “with this hardware you will get 1080p60 at medium graphics preset.”

It’s likely that the chips are just the ones the development team had to test with, but it might be that, in this game, the 10400 is actually comparable.

Some games prefer the architecture of one brand over another. This is why reviewers need to test a range of games. RDR2 is a game where 10th gen can match Ryzen 5000 series, for example – if you go back to the original GN review for the 5600X, you’ll see that RDR2 is the one game where the 10600K wins.

Another game is Starfield, which really likes Intel CPUs some reason. In that game, the 10400 might actually perform on the same level as the 5600X, even though in a wide range of games, the 5600X is 15-20% faster on average.

These minimum and recommended specs are always so bad you should always watch on youtube some benchmark

  10. SunbleachedAngel

These are manually created by the developers, and as others said, it’s probably just what they had on hand. These are usually not super useful anyway

  11. Annual_Letter1636

At least i5-10400 have 6 cores and 12 threads like Ryzen 5600X

i5 9400 is only 6 cores 6 threads. I would say 10400 is lower tier as recommended for intel, not match or identical to Ryzen 5600X

  12. rewgod123

how about you see it as R5-3600 doesn’t meet their target so they pick the what come up after that ?

  13. rupal_hs

Most of the time PC spec sheet for games doesn’t make any sense, they just throw approximate numbers without any fps and graphics preset target

  14. EnforcerGundam

a lot of devs still have the mindset that ryzen is not as good as intel stuff, so this is commmon.

Better than Forspoken with their Ryzen 5 5700X
