Depending on price and what games he wants to play it may be adequate.
It’s decent – if it’s very cheap. Otherwise, stay clear.
For ~250 dollars its decent. Maybe 300. Anything more is too much for it.

The 1070 is almost as old as your son (I am exaggerating a bit but it’s still over 8 yo). Depending on the price, it might not be a bad deal, since it still is a GPU and it’ll be enough for like Minecraft or Roblox and most 2D games
Never heard of that PSU brand, see if you can get a 5600 instead (that’s what I use in my gaming PC and it’s great). Also see if you can get a 2070 instead at least (so it can do dlss).
My 6 year old has a 1070 in his setup and it’s great for older 1080p games but if your kid wants to play newer titles and especially with higher settings you may need something more in terms of GPU.
The PSU sends shivers down the spine.
Without a price it’s impossible for anyone to give you a real answer. I will note that PC is using a very old video card that came out over 8 years ago and a low end CPU. Also, without knowing what games your son is hoping to play, it’s also difficult for anyone to let you know if it’ll be good for him.

GPU is ancient and PSU probably a ticking bomb. I’d recommend an AMD RX 6600 and safer PSU.

if you get this replace the psu ASAP. cheap PSUs or PSUs from an obscure brand are a fire hazard

I’d go for an AM5 board and chip, even if it’s a lower end one.
Depending on where you live, it’s a yes/no.
Humid country? Don’t trust old components too much. Switch the “GTX 1070” with something more recent. RX 6600 is more recent and often good value.
PC market small? Don’t pay more than $450 total for those parts.

Power supplies make/break PCs. Never cheap out on obscure brands. CoolerMaster and FSP are my go-to’s. Still affordable, very reliable.
That motherboard+CPU combo doesn’t work out of the box. Make sure the vendor updates the BIOS first to avoid headaches. Easier if you buy at just 1 retailer.

This is the type of PC I’d give to a friend and refuse to charge cause it’s so basic. The GPU is atrocious. What price did they quote you?
Everything else is great except that PSU, you should get a better PSU just to be safe. Those things could be dangerous if they’re too cheap. Check out some youtube videos about PSU and the PSU tier list online.
Also personally as a college student myself, I’d recommend buying either a 1TB NVME or get some additional storage like a sata ssd or hdd. Just any kind of additional storage that suit the budget range. Because if your son is gonna use that pc throughout his school years all the way up to later in highschool and such. He’s gonna have to use that pc to do schoolworks eventually and that 500gb is not gonna be enough.

Depends. The GPU is very old and if the GPU is for it’s full price then it’s heavily overpriced. What’s your budget?
Make your child play some physical sports, not digital ones. This will shape him up in much better ways. Make him play Football/Cricket/Rugby/Tennis/Golf/Baseball/Basketball etc etc etc….
Honestly that CPU is a pretty bad pairing with the gtx 1070

He’s going to switch to my ryzen 3600, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, radeon 580 8gb in the upcoming months once the new x3d get released

I would pay 250-300 top for this. I don’t know about the PSU, and maybe CPU cooler, but those can be gotten on rather cheap.
i3 12100f and rx580 for Budget and run most games then upgrade to any rtx card C:

This is plenty good. I am sitting with lenovo yoga slim7 pro laptop which has ryzen 4500u I think and integrated vega GPU. And that CPU is still good enough, only the GPU is weak for gaming. I still manage to play POE on this laptop, wich is bad, but bearable and the laptop doesnt shut down. CPU can handle that although graphics are crying loud.
So yeah, I think this PC is still pretty descent.
GTX 1070 is very old. I won’t comment on much else but try to get something better.

My ten years old has 5700x and rtx 3060ti. I am saving for my own new PC though.
1070 is shit now, don’t do it. Need at least a 20 series rtx
