So, neuralink is a thing now, but what are other examples of real world bio-hacking that you've heard of?

I read about someone who had a wifi router surgically implanted a few years ago to become a walking wi-fi hot spot, pretty sure it had to be removed due to crazy infection.

What else?

Edit: not the kind of bio hacking for surgery, health reasons and lifestyle improvements, but the more technology implant direction

Anything more extreme than this yet?

Implanting rfid chips into your hand for apartment/work access. Last lights in fake eyeballs

I mean, about any longterm medication kinda counts. Or knee replacements. It’s less “hacking” as they’re pretty orthodox procedures by now but it definitely took a hacker mentality to decide that they could just build a new knee out of titanium and throw that sucker in and have you walking on it the same day.

I also take a medication that preserves telomeres and that feels like it’s going to be awesome the more I age.

Are you thinking of recreational/occupational/medical use? There are glucose monitors and pacemakers. Hearing and optoelectronic implants.

There are smart orthopedic devices. What do you think about a smart device that can be inserted in your knee and tracks metrics related to your knee health and comfort for your doctor to make decisions from?

Back in ’07 I was with a chick who had a clit piercing. Haven’t run into any other more effective augmentation in my life.

    So not biohacking

As long as these devices have one one transmission they are safe. Most of them basically send diagnostic messages out, they work within a close network if any. It’s not like you heart stimulator is being synchronized by some GPS clock server and you can do something with this transmission to make it stop. It will be possible to hack devices that will actually gather data from the internet to send some signals to your body.
