*goes to shut down computer and go to bed *: Ah, windows update. I’ll select update and shutdown so I don’t have to stay up and wait for it to finish.

*computer restarts anyways and I don’t find out till the next day and after work*

Why is Tom updating windows on an iMac?

  3. Particular-Poem-7085

it literally takes less time to update than it used to boot up normally.

You think that’s bad? My laptop does this with BIOS updates, yes it pulls them automatically from the internet. So you come home after work and want to play some Minecraft with the kids… and its stiff drink time.

A both a PC gamer and console gamer. I rather take a windows update that often take 5-20min. Over when I start my Console and wanna play a game and the game is sorry need a 80GB update.

I hold off on those until I go to bed. Shutdown and update button!

That sucks. However, if you don’t want this to happen, keep an eye out for Windows updates. They are released every second Tuesday of every month, except when there are US national holidays around that time. This way, you can update when you are not gaming(perhaps let it do its thing overnight) and when you are ready to game, the PC is ready for you too.

For those who suggest “just switch to Linux. it does not update automatically”, you are genuinely irresponsible with your computer. Everything needs updates in a rapidly evolving digital threat landscape. Even if you don’t store bank details on your system, updates make sure that you get support for the latest hardware and improved compatibility and functionality of and with the parts you already have installed. Turning off updates is a sure fire way to open a myriad of security vulnerabilities in your rig that can be exploited by whatever script kiddie found a POC on GitHub playing around in <insert game here>.

Literally never had this problem. Ok maybe when i was on Windows 8 and early Windows 10 but it doesn’t happen anymore

This happens with my work laptop all the time, I go to shut down because the battery is about to die and I don’t want to plug it in then it starts to update. And i’m like good like with 1% battery, you should have checked that before this mandatory update.

Nothing freaking worse. Then you get the pop up wanting you to set up OneDrive or “remind me in 3 days” or it won’t let you into windows and the only way around is to turn your computer off and back on.

  14. Linux be like: “Yo, There’s been a ton of updates for like like past 6 months, you wanna do the thing? No? Okay!”

  15. vjollila96

linux: there are upgrades available for these packages, update if you want… or not

I don’t get how people still have problems with windows update. I haven’t been interrupted by it in so long. I also shut down my pc every day so I guess that helps

  19. Seacat01

Microsoft has been releasing windows updates the second Tuesday of every month for like 20 years now. Also if you keep your pc up to date it won’t update “randomly”.

My reaction in the final steps of a bios update
