Was the effort necessary? Idk. Is it beautiful, absolutely.

Eh, all ends up the same once the HSF goes on and pressure is applied.

  4. ib_poopin

Bro cross-hatched his thermal paste. Well done

  5. -Highwayman

Rookie mistake, the thermal paste goes under the CPU.

Show us how it looks a year or years later & then end the discussion!

  7. I’m going to be honest. I think I’m going to use those neat thermal pads in the future instead

    #WITCHCRAFT!!!

    But honestly… that’s neatly beautiful.

Did you screen-print your thermal paste??

The end result looks like the included paste you see on stock CPU coolers.

Clearly the ultimate solution to this discussion is using PTM7950.

I’ve used it on ~5 computers and seen temp improvement in every single one of them. It was kind of a PITA to get the film peeled on both sides but ultimately I haven’t had to touch it in years and that was the goal.

I’ve been reusing corsairs XTM70 paste stencils with KPX. Hate the XTM though, too thick to spread easily, and doesn’t stick well until you try to remove the cooler later. Yoinked the CPU right off the socket twice now

Or, and I’m just thinking out loud here.

Order some rebranded PTM7950 that fits your IHS exactly, Thermalright Heilos is rebranded PTM7950 and its cheap as fuck, like $3-4 on Amazon.

Pop it in the freezer for 10 minutes, pull off one side of the protective layer, slap it on your IHS and FIRMLY give it a finger massage for a bit, remove the tape and you’re done.

Then never worry about pump out, dry out, fallout or rainbow trout ever again.

Paste is for eating, not for processors.

My cooler came pre coated. I added a little bit more to the chip threw it on and don’t run hotter than 43 degrees playing cyberpunk. I probably spent all of 10 seconds applying the paste. You do you tho, it does look really good.

It looks nice, but you’re just adding extra steps to get the same result.

This will almost certainly lead to airpockets.

That’s is clean. I’m a fan of the smear on toast method but that’s churchin it up right there!
