Man, I’d love to see a remake of this game. Still the gold standard of kart racing games imo

Literally the only kart racing game I’ve played other than Crash Team Racing that gives Mario Kart a run for its money.

  2. Beneficial-Tie-660

Totally agree! A remake with updated graphics and new tracks would be epic.

  3. avocado-v2

Why bother with a remake? The game is honestly perfect as-is.

  4. The mini games in this were fantastic! The ones that weren’t racing or battles. I remember one was getting eggs and placing them in your nest. And opponents could “steal” from each other.

Such a gem of a game.

You want Microsoft to try and make a Diddy Kong Racing game? Do you really?

Well I guess they also made a Banjo Kazooie car game lmao, so maybe..

  6. Garey_Games

I played the one on the DS and it was fun

  7. cosmernautfourtwenty

Did multi-vehicle type racing before it was cool.

  8. Dont_have_a_panda

The DS remake its actually pretty fun and decent, not sure why everyone sleeps on It

  9. chibbledibs

My all time favorite game. I’d love a remake or a sequel.

  10. AzureDreamer

Disney cart racing magical racing tour doesn’t get the respect it deserves.

  11. caulkglobs

I loved the concept of the mario 64 style overworld.

The one thing that fell short for me were the items. The items in mario kart 64 are perfect. In this game they feel way less powerful, and way less varied.

Donkey Kong Racing was a fantastic game and I’d love to see a remake as well.

    The soundtrack was amazing too.

  13. Troll-Wizard

Hands down the best racing game ever made

  14. ILoveAllPenguins

Idk if I wanna race the Squid again though….. 🤕

i used to be up all night as a kid playing the deathmatch mode against bots. got way too good at this game

it was incredible when i actually beat it. that race against the triceratops spanked my ass over and over

  16. DrPingu76

This game was the progenitor of my potty mouth. That cheating fucking triceratops! Go even get me started on Wizpig!

  17. Zdenusko1984

I’d pay $60 for a remastered version of this.

  18. HoboOperative

I will always be salty that I was never good enough to beat this game as a 10 yr old. It was so much more difficult than Mario Kart lol.

  19. SenpaiSwanky

I can hear the music and announcer perfectly, haven’t played this in over a decade. There is a DS remake that people should check out if they can.

Nintendo did a few OG games justice with DS remakes, same with Mario 64. Shouldn’t be slept on.

    Most underrated soundtrack ever

  21. Bunnzillaa

This was so good !!! The over world in this game was like the best in any racing game !

  22. JonagonInfinity

No one wants to hear it but DKR is waaay better than MK. 3 vehicle modes, way more courses, weapons that upgrade!! Plus a legit story mode, more replayability. But, alas, Mario and friends win hearts (and end friendships).

  23. MelancholyArtichoke

Fond memories of this game. Would love to see it come back.

Give it the Deluxe treatment and add a bunch of new characters and tracks.

  24. paintherpretty

Icicle Pyramid is peak Saturday night gaming.

  25. SlimShaners

I use to jam to this game back in the day!

  26. flatmotion1

while I do like the game a lot, compared to mario kart n64 the steering always felt whack to me.

  27. susankeane

The explorable hub world was an amazing unique feature and when the lighthouse disappears and you realize there are secret SPACE LEVELS and an unlockable hidden character the game becomes unforgettable

  28. partyl0gic

Recently replayed this with some friends from younger days. This game is absolutely fantastic, one of the best rare game for sure.

  29. OsirisAvoidTheLight

Was cool how it had flying, boats, and land racing

  30. SnowSurvivor

It’s been over 20 years and the music still haunts me

  31. MuzzledScreaming

Right there with you. My favorite kart racing game to this day, and I am so disappointed its formula was never really repeated.

  32. aeIownedyoo

I keep saying that all Rare has to do is get rid of Diddy and Krunch, and they can bring it back as “Rare Racing.”

  33. Bitcracker

Dude. In Jr high a buddy lived a block from school. A crew of us would show up early to play this game at his house. If you didn’t have a controller you didn’t play. I had an N64 controller a year and a half before I had the console. I remember the battle map in the ice castle the best

  34. Croanosus

    “Select your Vehicle.

    Abra-ca-dabra!

    Bye Bye For Now!”

  35. It’s not really a kart racer. It’s a variety racers. It had karts, hover craft, and airplanes.

  36. Ferious13

I still have mine and play it with my now 6 & 5 year old daughters. It’s still great!

  37. Moat_of_the_Sacked

They made one. People hated it. Never again.

  38. WilmaTonguefit

First game I ever owned and still one of my favorites. It always brings back fond memories of 7 year old me opening my N64 on Christmas.

I love the different vehicles. I love that there’s story mode. I love that there is a secret world you access through a lighthouse the turns into a spaceship. The soundtrack is banger after banger.

Getting TT might be my favorite side mission and reward in any game. Beating his times on every track is hard, but not insanely grindy or unfair, and TT himself being the fastest character but with decent handling is a worthy reward for the task.

(Small tip in this game: Taking your finger off of the gas before a zipper, and then not putting your finger back until after the smoke clears gives you a much bigger boost. This is really the only way to beat TT’s times.)

I need a 60 FPS copy on Nintendo online. A port is inevitable.
