  1. Also, friends 3070 didn’t work in my system, hoping the bios update sorts it too!

  2. Euphoric_Ad5007

O my god, I went from a 5600x wich is basically the same as a 3600x lil faster but still, to a 5800x3d my god its night an day

  3. Euphoric_Ad5007

And look into undrvolting and, I run most things on auto in bios and it works awsome,

  4. Euphoric_Ad5007

Curve optimizer in bios mabye, aparently -30 is the most you should go, but try it in -5 increments and stress test after each one, I had mad gains doing that

  5. Traditional-Entry112

I remember when I had to do this LOL. I was shitting bricks. Worth it though. AM4 maxed out now.

  6. alan1013

Its worth. Still havent switched to to AM5 because its still very good. 9000 series is disappointing

  7. Outkast_IRE

I updated bios on the msi B450 tomahawk max a few days ago and windows shit the bed and demanded a repair , ended up doing a clean install with no issues since.

  8. It’s 100% worth it. I switched from 3950x to 5700X3D and it was a massive gaming improvement. Other stuff, probably suffered but I’m happy with it for gaming.

  9. Daoist_Serene_Night

u have a button with which u can flash, so even if smth happenes, u can just use that and a usb stick

  10. AhiruSaikou

bios updating hasnt been overly dangerous for years, choom.

  11. RevolutionaryCarry57

From a 3600 to a 5800x3D is a massive performance boost in the realm of a 2 generation leap. It will be well worth it friend!

  12. Gigastor

I have the exact same mobo, recently upgraded from a 3600 to a 5700X3D. The most stressful part for me was straightening some pins that were bent for some reason. Thankfully it all worked out

  13. XenonJFt

does Bios updates take long? I thought these things simply flash to the board

  14. Jumpy-Major-9562

Best cpu I’ve own.  Have fun!

  15. Milk_Cream_Sweet_Pig

Most motherboards have BIOS Flashback don’t they?

  16. Even if it wasn’t. Doing a bios update is a good idea most of the time. Sure you want some kind of UPS so power does not cut but you are extremely unlikely to brick it.

  17. No_Duck108

    100% worth i have one but i went from a i7-4790s to a 5800x3d

  18. GrandJuif

I wonder if it would be a good idea to switch from 5950X to 5800X3D.

  19. RelationshipKlutzy17

Fuck yeah it is. In one of my CPU bound games (Valorant) I practically 1.5x-1.7x my average frame rate even with my kind-of-aging 2080ti.

1% lows in other games had a significant uplift too.

Do play around with the PBOTuner and Undervolting if you’re comfortable though. Helldivers 2 was making my PC scream sometimes getting to 80+C average even with a NH-D15 cooling it. With a -25mV offset it peaks at 73C give or take depending on ambient (Usually 22C or 71F).

  20. Even if it fails, the UEFI automatically reverts itself back to its former state. Some boards even have two UEFI’s if the first gets corrupted somehow (I’ve had several UEFI updates fail, but they never ended up corrupted).

Still, I can get why it’s scary.

Funny that it still says BIOS on that image. BIOS isn’t used anymore really.

  21. deadgain

For anyone reading, I too was on a 3600 and upgraded my while fucking mobo and ram to get a 7800x3d.

Yes, it was worth all the pain in the ass

  22. You’re good, back in the day I was bored and attempted to update my BIOS using the Windows updater tool knowing it was a bad idea (seriously, why did this tool exist?), it fucked up and bricked my board! After kicking myself a bit, I pulled out the manual and followed how to recover and reflash using a floppy disk (the proper method), this was on a Intel D845BG (Pentium 4) board from 2001 and it survived a bad flash!

  23. Mao_Kwikowski

So worth it. I went from 3700x to 5800x3d.

  24. schmocamecola

I did this when I upgraded my 2700X to a 5700X in my upgrade before my upgrade to AM5

Add a little bit of spice and do it during a thunderstorm. That’s where boys become men

  25. I’m super tempted to go from 5600x to 5800x3D.

I feel like I should just wait for a full rebuild at this point

  26. jman0918

bios update needed for the security patch, this is a 2 for 1!

  27. VengeanceFall

Scared of what a bios update?
It’s not what it used to be.

  28. Jaislight

You made the right move. I made the same upgrade a while back. Could not be happier

  29. OvenCookie

I swapped my 3700x with a 5800X3D and forgot to update the BIOS before hand. I was confused for a bit working that out.

  30. Question for anyone with the info:

I’m currently on a 5700x and was considering maybe getting a 5800X3D. Will I see enough of a difference to justify the cost, or should I wait and make the jump to an AM5 platform?

(For reference the 5800X3D is currently £277 on Amazon UK)

  31. TechnicalOpposite672

Bios updates dont really go wrong anymore. It works 99.99% of the time perfectly fine.

  32. FairBandicoot8721

Why is everyone so scared of the bios update? I think i have seen somewhere that if the power goes out then it can screw up your motherboard or something like that, i mean i updated my bios once and it went smoothly so i just wanted to ask why is everyone scared of it?

  33. D-Trashman

Where is my CH341A gang? that device saved me the first time I bricked a mobo

  34. rocket___pak

Don’t know why. Done bios updates on hundreds of machines and never had one fail.

  35. Pleb-SoBayed

Im legit so afraid of updating bios. Good luck soldier!!

  36. Vondecoy

I bought and built a PC just before the 5800X3D came out. I have a 5800X… still kicking myself occasionally.
