I’m about to upgrade my system with an intel i9-14900KS but I’m not sure with motherboard would be best.
I will be overclocking the CPU and having the RAMs on their standard XMP profile. DDR5s at around 7000mhz(not sure which ones yet, any recommendations are welcome).
Strix 4090 watercooled along with CPU.
I’ve come across many reviews that made me conclude that the Dark Hero is better for OC and high RAM speeds. Correct me if I’m wrong.
But then I saw in Techspot a review of 11 Z790s and realized that the temperatures on the Master X were way below the rest. And thats the only thing making me question between the two.
It’s a 15 degree difference. I understand it’s the temperature of the backside PCB, but how much influence that has on the rest of the components? Is that enough to go with Master X instead of Dark Hero?

There is zero reason to buy a 4 slot board for a performance orientated system, 2 slot boards offer superior RAM overclocking. The Asus Apex Encore and Gigabyte Tachyon are the high-end overclocking boards for that reason.
If you only intend to enable XMP you might as well buy a $230 4 slot board, there will be no performance difference.

The VRM temp is utterly meaningless. Even a board running at 80 degrees will last over 10000 hours. Arguing 50 vs 80C is like arguing which Formula 1 car is superior for getting groceries.
PSA, 14900KS is playing Russian Roulette with your CPU. Why give Intel $600 for a product that will potentially fail?
