This gonk freaked me out when he jumped out from behind that bus stop and well… you see what happened.

Ok I know this situation was a bit insane, but does it happen to anyone else where civvies will 90% of the time throw themselves in front of your car if you drive just a *little too fast* around a corner or alongside a sidewalk? God, these gonks piss me off.

Night city insurance scam duh! Chooms gotta make eddies somehow. Not all of us can be chromed to the tits!

So I remember this being brought up before and it stems entirely from how they coded the npc’s to react to vehicles coming at them. Something to do with how they see just a line of the vehicles intended path without taking anything else into account and if it intersects their path within a certain distance they automatically do that. Honestly it’s poorly done and I have run into them doing this far too often for no reason besides said bad coding design.

I have noticed, if you go onto the sidewalk, they jump into the road to avoid you. If you try going back onto the road after hitting the curb they have already committed to getting off the sidewalk.

I read that they’re coded to jump backyards

Night City is so bad, it’s probably cheaper to throw yourself into traffic to die to a car ‘accident’ than it would be to have your family incur what I only assume would be; a hefty suicide fee, City cleaning fee, mandatory police investigation with bribes included, and have their credit/reputation tarnished in whatever company they’re slaving away in

I’ll give you the first one but the 3 after that are on you

On a mechanical level. The game is loading. On an immersion level. Bro you’re breaking several traffic laws.

insurance scammers are getting bolder by the day.

  10. Worse avoidance AI than the game Crazy taxi (1999).

Coding for NPC to dodge a car is a relatively simple calculation.

They see the incoming vector of a car and on depending if the vector line goes to the right or left of them, they jump to the opposite side to increase the distance between them and the vector.

Where the problem comes in is that they don’t calculate in the actual path, just the direction in that very moment the calculation starts. NPCs don’t take into account your steering.

I don’t see anything weird. I do it all the time, it’s a ton of fun. Those vans with the flat fronts *really* sting, though.

You got three for the price of one! They only charged you one star for hitting three people. I’d say you came out winning from that exchange!

Imagine saying that to a judge after being prosecuted for crashing into a sidewalk with a top speed of 170

You mean the one entering the crosswalk right after the red light you ran?

Yeh, can’t imagine why he’d be in the road…
