Of course with my luck I nabbed a 14700k/4070 super build as my first ever gaming PC about 6 months ago. Was having a blast up until yesterday when multiple games kept crashing so I figured my CPU self destructed with the little tech knowledge I have. Learned how to test my RAM and sure enough got an error on one stick, she lives to fight another day.

You know I read up on a bunch of these including some custom PC builders that claim to have a very low failure rate with these. Are you guys not customizing your power limits and setting your voltages when you get a k chip? Like I’ve been setting voltage on these, basically since 2007 when we didn’t even have an i5 or i7 or anything like that. With Intel you always custom set your voltage. Like you test where the chip is stable and you keep lowering the voltage until you figure out where stability and temperature intersect. The power limits, the core voltage, it’s all done manually.
Pretty much every report I’ve read about these failures and everything are people who just set it on auto. Or use some automatic overclock feature
Which basically tells me one thing in the end, the chips are being pushed too hard for an automatic setting. I won’t be surprised if the microcode update addresses some of this. The AMD 5950X had a similar problem as you can tell eBay is littered with all of the parts or not working CPUs where the seller says well it’s still kind of works. In fact those chips will work if you lower the voltage and underclock them. It’s silicon degradation. The problem with Intel is it seems like the automatic settings were at a point that it was quickly degrading the chips and not that many people for reasons unknown to me are doing the custom voltage sets like they should be. That’s one of the biggest benefits to intel is how easy they are to overclock and customize, at least compared to Amd

As will the case be for over 90% of these people posting about instability. Even the dumpster fire of i9 seem to only have a combined 5% failure rate at most. The panik going on here is funny to say the least.

Same with mine, i though my war thunder out of video memory crash screen was a roasted chip but it was just because war thunder freaks out and chugs all the ram and vram when you alt tab in fullscreen, so I just changed it to full window and it’s chill now

My 12600K is going strong and has great temps, would definitely recommend.

Plot twist: the ram stick is actually fine and the CPU is broken for a different reason.
