Put a second adapter on the other end so it goes USBC -> HDMI -> USBC and it should work just fine..

I imagine something like a Raspberry Pi 400 with a full fledged USB-C port so it can connect to a monitor via USB-C and then the monitor has USB and ethernet ports, so some peripherals are connected to it already… It’s exciting… And confusing…
