at this rate expect 5090 to be same size as your motherboard.

In an alternate reality Nvidia could have not gone crazy with the power target, made it as small as the 2080ti, and only lost 5-10% performance compared to how it is now.

  2. As a mini itx user, I’d be more than happy if the 5090 were the same size as it 👌

  3. imaginary_num6er

    Rumors say it’s 2-slot so it’s 180mm wide x 420mm long

  4. TheBoobSpecialist

The 4090 being shorter than the 3090 suggest the 5090 will be even shorter.

  5. Bloodfarts4foone

I didn’t even consider how stupid big it’s going to be. 4-4.5 slots maybe maybe even 5

“Look at me, look at me, I am the motherboard now.” Expecting the 5090 to be size of a window air conditioner.

we’re fast approaching a point where it will no longer be practical to slot a gpu into a motherboard using pcie slots, and an entirely different architecture will need to be made

  8. Desperate-Intern

In a way, I’d wish 50 series to be significantly more power efficient and consequently less hot and takes no more than 2 slots to fit. I’d see that as a win.

Whilst RT performance can be targeted, more stuff for their DLSS and such.. but base performance be the same, as in my thinking, it will force game devs to not go crazy with requirements and actually optimize the games for once.

I also half expect them to introduce the 5100. It’ll be 15% better than a 4090, but $3k price.

I’m just waiting for AIO coolers on GPUs to become the norm (at a reasonable price point, since I’m already dreaming…)

  11. The_Spyre

I’ll be buying the wall mount for mine.

  12. Monsoon_GD

Just get a 5080. You probably have to take out a second mortgage to afford it anyway lol.

Something about the 2080ti is so badass

Will I need a steel rod to prevent GPU sagging?

  16. OnairDileas

Eventually it may not be uncommon that GPUs may be come father boards, mobo built into a GPU, they’re already testing M2 NVME drives on them.

I had a GTX770 that was around 12 inch long. Had 3 full sized fans, that I never heard working.

I remember when I first held it in my hands. It absolutely dwarfed the gtx470 I had in my case before that. But also it’s replacement, 1060 6gb and later the 1080 were both shorter than it.

So GPU size varies up and down with generations.

  18. Rican2153

I’ve never seen a big GPU post before. Incredible.

  19. rexpimpwagen

Yeah we just glued together 2 4090s to make the 5090.

  20. Punchedmango422

Idk about the tech inside them, but does the size of them correlate with power/processing?

  21. Comfortable-Cap2284

The 4090 IS smaller but has a much bigger fan.

I can expect next gen to need a bigger heat sink

  22. FeelTheRealBirdie

The current FE cards are over engineered by a crazy amount. My 4080 FE rarely ever goes beyond 55c even after almost 2 yrs of use. I expect the 50 series FE cards to remain the same size

  23. sour-grapes-

my dad owns nvidia, and he syas that he is going to change the card after yuo leaked it XD

  24. Not_so_new_user1976

Are we not talking about how much money is sitting here?

  25. FuckTrump74738282

Good better heat dissipation. My case can handle it that’s why I upgraded to a full tower.

  26. Vis-hoka

This is why I buy cards that use no more than 200 watts. More performance for more power is just brute force.

  27. Exciting-Key1175

Probably gonna be the size of the case pretty soon. Gonna have external graphics cards for desktops now

  28. SalSevenSix

I have said this before… it’s time PC parts manufacturers rethink the desktop platform. It would be better if they were made more like consoles and laptops. So have both CPU and GPU on the mainboard with a shared integrated cooling system. Also a unified memory architecture would be great too.

Sure,.you miss out on upgrade ability. But everything else would be improved.

1080Ti was, is, and always will be the GOAT! All the rest are shells of the Glory!
