Oddly enough, Johnny Silverhand.
He has your back and he even has your best interest in heart. He actually does his best to help you and he gives you his honest opinion.

Vik is a real bro. Helps V in the begging by letting them pay for chrome later, saves them from dying + does the same with Takemura and even tries to help him with the chip.

I’d storm arasaka tower for Vik any day and he has our back so many times we are only alive thanks to him but johnny also has our back trough out the story. Can decide between them.
I think I’ve talked about this before… But I really wish the game was a little more clear after the prologue about your friendship with Vik and Misty.
I mean, it’s a game with a lot of freedom. I get that… But ultimately you *have* to cycle back to these characters for story reasons…
And I did visit them often, talked to Misty about cards, Vik about new prosthetics (that he never has lol). But ultimately I really wish the game found more ways to make them more present, maybe some later game missions with them, IDK.
It always felt a little jarring how near the end of the game (and in one of the endings TBH) the game just throws to you: “here are your best friends!”… It doesn’t really feel like it.

Other than “rebooting your system” to keep himself out of purgatory again and giving you the dogtags that he took from a soldier who saved his life, what does Johnny do that says to the player that he’s your friend? Lol.
TBH, no one ever replaced Jackie. Vik’s more like an uncle, Misty’s like a sister and Johnny’s a comrade in arms that I don’t see ever hanging out with V. The romance options that you choose is your significant other which is a little different than “best friend” and the ones you do just seem like there’s something missing to the relationship.
Misty provides emotional support and spiritual guidance, helping V navigate the challenges and losses they face, especially after loss. Her empathetic and non-judgmental nature makes her a reliable source of comfort and wisdom in the chaotic world of Night City.

Seriously, Jackie is an amazing best friend, 10/10. Vik gives me more of a foster dad vibe.
Also, Takemura? If he and V spent more time in different circumstances, I’m sure they could be great friends!
I mean, you don’t have a lot of choices for “friends” if we’re not including romance options here. These three (Vik, Misty, and Johnny) are really the only ones that see V as such. Some in the Aldecaldos might, but you don’t really interact much with them. If Jackie were still around, it’d definitely be him, but Vik is a close second. So not really much competition.
If we were including romanceable options as best friends, and since I can’t romance Judy (she don’t like guys 🥲), I’d definitely say she is the best friend of my V otherwise.

Vik isn’t a good friend…he’s V’s father figure and is straight up family. Vik getting emotional that he can’t save V is maybe the best line delivery in the entire game. I think if you have the right relationship with Johnny though he can be a great friend that clearly cares for V a lot even though he’s bad at showing it. I do think Panam is the best friend for femme V though.
Johnny. By the end, we really build a solid friendship. (I’m also a homicidal maniac who hates corps)
