Recently (week ago) bought an Intel microcenter bundle which included a Z790 mobo, i7-14700k, and 32gb of DDR5 6400 Corsair Vengence RGB Ram for about 580$ total
Nothing has been opened yet at all (saving for other parts first) and with the Intel crisis going on right now,
- Should I switch to amd?
There are some AMD microcenter bundles that I can get the corsair ram still with, no clue where to begin on mobos though.
For cpus I heard AMD 7800X3D is the AMD equivalent of the i7-14700, and they have a bundle roughly the same price I got for this bundle.
- If I switch to amd, which mobo should I look out for?
Is the mobo for the microcenter bundle here good for the cpu? Or should I see about changing the mobo? (Still might to bundle but was just wondering specifically if the mobo listed is a no go)

the R7 7800x3d is the best gaming CPU available and is easy to cool with a $35 Phantom Spirit 120 air cooler
optimum DDR5 for AM5 CPU’s is 6000 cl30 with AMD EXPO
100% go AMD 7800X3D. Even before the Intel fiasco, I would go AMD .

The Intel bundle I swapped the ram using the “build-with-it” feature and swapped the mobo, but the price before tax was the 560 I think (and then tax and all that fun jazz brought it to 580ish)

Since a bunch keep saying “why didn’t you choose amd in the first place etc etc”, had experience with Intel only so I decided to stick with what I knew, experience though isn’t going to convince me now with all the Intel stuff.

yes, get AMD instead
Definitely switch, the 7800x3d is about 15% faster in games, can be cooled by a phantom spirit 40$ cooler, won’t need any power (literally 65W chip compared to 250W i7), reliably works AND is upgradable to zen6. (Zen 4 is the current 7000 series, zen5 comes out in a few weeks but not the 3d-vcache parts, meaning they will only match/trade blows with the 7800x3d in gaming. Then in 1.5 years zen6 will come out and because motherboards are supported till 2028, you will surely be able to upgrade to a zen6 3d vcache cpu that’s about 60-70% faster then a 7800x3d in a few years. If you wait even longer then 3-4 years, they will be cheap as well.
As an Intel user myself, I highly recommend considering AMD. If you prefer Intel, the 12th Gen is a viable option, but given Intel’s current issues, I am hesitant to endorse them at this time.
Switch to 7800X3D or 7950X3D if you also need the extra multi-threaded performance. Either way, bundle it with DDR5-6000 CL30 RAM.
I went with 7800x3d even before this whole Intel thing fell apart. It’s just a better cou for gaming.

I wouldn’t risk it. You can give them back and avoid potential issues.
7800x3D is better than anything intel can offer in gaming, and in production its usually equal or a bit behind. But its never a bad buy
You don’t necessarily need to swap, but once micropatch hits, it isn’t unlikely for performance and prices to drop. So either get AMD right now, or send MoBo+CPU back and wait until September to check the impact of the micropatch as well as get the parts for a lower price. Intel is just very questionable value right now.
If you can return it, then go for AMD. Unfortunately, I have a 13th gen and can’t return it. On the bright side, I’m out of the country for a few months, so I hope that microcode update will work.
That bundle should be ok.. Good hardware.. Ofc you’re going to have people shitting on intel.. And Intel is becoming shit
AMD makes more sense for new builders. AM5 should last a good few years now so plenty of room for upgrades. 7800x3D is pretty much the best out there for gaming atm, and for the price it’s even better, will allow you to save abit on the power supply too, as the 7800x3d consumes a lot less power than the 14700k
Barring any problems with current hardware it really doesnt matter. Prior to AMD being everybodys favorite? I used an AMD processor to save money. AMD FX 8350. It was so impressive on paper. But it was trash. So much trash, in fact? That I was able to join a class action lawsuit against AMD.
AMD May be the favorite as of this moment. But tides will change.
I was pretty much a brand loyalist to Intel with my latest build which was a 13700K last year(no issues yet!) I’m pretty much done with Intel and Asus as well. All my future builds will be AMD, no question.
You’ve got a 50/50 chance that processor will have issues. And about the same chance that intel won’t screw you over if you RMA
