Pretty common that new PC builders put the GPU in the bottom slot.
Common sense can be “putting it in the bottom slot is easier and you can see where you’re plugging it in without the CPU cooler obstracting the view of it”
No one is born with all the knowledge, its fine.
Tell him to put the GPU in the top slot and also plug another SEPARATE PCIE cable to the GPU. It takes off the stress from that one poor cable and disperses it across all cables.

Lots of people suggesting you tell him to move the GPU to the top slot, which is solid. But also remind your friend to push down on the tab first (like the RAM slots) before he yanks it out
– someone who once forgot to release the tab and just yanked their GPU out of there

Tell friend to move GPU to topmost slot because it usually has the best PCIe lanes and will not share PCIe with m.2 SSDs.
Furthermore tell friend to use two seperate cables to connect power to the GPU. It reduces stress on the cable, single cable GPU connections can sometimes cause issues with power draw and result in black screens.
Tell friend to move the top fan to the rear fan bank to improve air flow front to back.
Friend did a good job for a first build. Give them kudos.

Picked a fight with the USB 3.0 frontpanel connector, lost the fight, then put the GPU in the slow where he doesn’t have to deal with it. Solid logic, but slower than it could be :/
Memory is in the right slots and the fans point the right way, I’ve seen a lot worse…
