There would need to be some Mr Blue Eyes style mind control in there too, because I can’t imagine V being happy when he learns that Militech deliberately ruined his life and relationships. I wouldn’t want to be in the room when he finds that out and all his cyberware comes back online…

in my headcanon >!the bald V of PL ending is a short living clone of V. Myers, fia and militech had no interest to waste the neural matrix to save the life of a random merc… they probably ripped off the relic from V head and he/she just died in the process. They created a disposable clone of V just to let people like reed or other people related to V that he/she’s still alive to avoid suspicious.!<

I heard that theory too and there’s another one that Myers gave V experimental blackwall/ cynosure inspired cyberware and wanted to destroy V’s relationships so all we’d have left is the NUSA that saved our life and “restored” our access to cyberware to guarantee V’s loyalty in the upcoming corpo or unification war. Then there was another theory that V was actually an FIA agent the whole 2 years and just got hit with a memory wipe. Personally I like the first one the most.
