One of the dumbest ideas I’ve heard in a long time.
DarkAlatreon
>So why would I be throwing my mouse or my keyboard away if it’s a fantastic-quality, well-designed, software-enabled mouse?
Because it will accumulate wear and tear over time? Something will give sooner or later, or maybe it will just start looking bad? Or a better model will come along?
Hey, I have an idea for Logitech! How about you fuck right off?
kkibb5s
I say go for it. Let them put in the R&D to build a hardy mouse, sell it at a huge loss expecting to make it back on subscriptions, then we jailbreak it.

I was thinking of getting a Logitech mouse but my rat 6 is looking great again all the sudden
RayHorizon
The idea here is not about making a good and durable mouse but a way to hook people to subscription. They WILL cut any corner possible. You would end up with overpirced mouse you pay subscribtion for and when it breaks it will take weeks for them to repair or replace it. mean while you will be using a normal mouse..so why even bother.

HP backed out of their shi**y printer subscription service, now Logitech thinks about putting a subscription on a device that doesn’t need any consumables. Solid decision,no way that will backfire…
Just17birds
Being told to think about it like buying a watch and then suggesting a subscription model is ridiculous…

Forever mouse idea, it’s very complicated and this will be a long post, sorry guys. Ok, let’s start the forever mouse plan essay:
1- Sell replacement parts
2- Support right to repair.
3- Don’t force a subscription/internet connect to use a product customers paid for.
Whew. That was complicated!
creamcolouredDog
Then they close down the service and brick the mice
AptoticFox
No.

I don’t subscribe to this idea.

Makes me want to burn all my Logitech gear. Can’t believe these greedy Swiss corpos decided your BT peripherals can only be used BT only so when the battery dies your device become E-waste, can’t believe they backed up from making their mechanical keyboard non hot swapable anymore. Fuck Logitech
machinationstudio
They need to prove their buttons can last forever first.

Pretty sure I’ve never discarded a mouse because of software issues.

A forever stay away from mouse maybe.

No thanks, got a wireless one and I already pay a sub for it. It’s called the “battery subscription”
0o0_Fool_Of_A_Took_
Fuck. Off. Logitech.

My OG mx518 still works great…
Logitech already know how to make a forever mouse, they just don’t do that anymore.
Keep0nBuckin
Why would anyone need a subscription for a mouse??
Will it send someone to move the mouse by brainwave so I can avoid carpel tunnel. Other than that Logitech doesn’t have any luck selling one to me
ayineeballerq
Who the hell even pitched this idea?
FeelingPixely
If you buy logitech you either hate yourself, hate your equipment, or you’re a college student on a budget.
Ew to this.

Joke on them, I stop using Logtech mouses long time ago. got 2 and both got double-clicking problem

Will subscription include spare parts?

And here I am still using my original decade old acer mouse…

How to make a mouse for ages? Make easily replaceable glides. Make easily replaceable LMB and RMB switches making ’em not soldered, but latched in a standard-sized slot. Make mouse working with default drivers, without special bloatware requirements. Congrats, you are fabulous!

We’re truly coming towards the end of capitalism. It’s extremes like this that made every system fall. When they start charging a subscription for a subscription is truly gonna be the end of it. Yo dawg!

You will own nothing and you WILL be happy.

Interesting that nowhere in the article does Logitech actually mention a subscription. Just a more expensive piece of hardware.
I sense a storm in a teacup here.

I have an idea for not buying Logitech products anymore.

Everything is moving to subscription I never thought I would have to pirate/jailbreak a mouse but here we are.

*… I’m not planning to throw that watch away ever. So why would I be throwing my mouse or my keyboard away if it’s a fantastic-quality, well-designed, software-enabled mouse? The forever mouse is one of the things that we’d like to get to.*
Watches dont get used and abused like mouses do everyday.
*The executive said such a mouse isn’t “necessarily super far away” and will rely on software updates, likely delivered through a subscription model.*
We already have free software updates so what he is saying is we are going to roll back things we already offered to now charge you for it.
Well time to add Logitech to my permanent shit list.
AgitatedStove01
Reading the article there are a few facts- the mouse isn’t even in development but if it were it would cost $200. On top if the idea they have, this doesn’t seem like an item for this particular market that we are all commenting in. I believe that this would be for a particular person in business sectors and those looking to flex and show off.
I think we are all fine here sticking to our $100 mice that break right after the warranty period is up.
